Look At Me Too!

People More Obsessed Than I

Politico has an article about Congressional squatters or as they would be called in my group of friends “media whores”

Squatters aim for presidential face time

As the State of the Union address loomed last week, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen began to think about her strategy.

On Monday, the Florida Republican would meet with constituents in Miami in the morning, then hop a flight to Washington, race over to the Capitol, prance down the halls, fly through the doors of the House chamber, elbow her way past like-minded colleagues and plant herself in an aisle seat, preferably in the center. There would be no time for small talk.

Ros-Lehtinen would then sit in the chamber for the rest of the day and wait for that priceless moment to come when President Bush would walk down the center aisle, give her a small embrace—and maybe even his classic wink—and the television networks would capture it all.

Live.

When you tune in to tonight’s State of the Union address and you see Ros-Lehtinen, a petite blonde woman in a lipstick-red jacket on the aisle, it won’t be a coincidence.

Ros-Lehtinen is a self-described State of the Union day squatter, meaning she camps out in the House chamber for at least five hours—and sometimes as much as seven hours—the day of the speech.

For the past seven years, she has made it a point to score a sacred aisle seat so her constituents, friends and family can see her whisper into the president’s ear before he addresses the nation.

Ros-Lehtinen isn’t the only one who will be arriving fashionably early—and it’s a bipartisan group.

Other aisle seat stalkers include Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.), Todd R. Platts (R-Pa.), Jean Schmidt ( R-Ohio), Mary Bono (R-Calif.), Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and a handful of others.

Bachmann, you may recall, drew headlines last year after she kept her hand on Bush’s shoulder for a record 30 seconds and then reached in for a smooch.

And two years ago, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) also became a target of late-night punch lines when he and Bush had a similar lovey-dovey moment.

“On the way in, I always like to wish the president luck or I say 'Go get ‘em,'” Capito said. “On the way out, it’s always, ‘Great speech.’”

“Being there, in that place, on that night,” Ros-Lehtinen echoed. “It’s just thrilling.”

The day of waiting, however, is not, the congresswomen said.

Ros-Lehtinen said she’ll bring a “mountain of paperwork” to the chamber to kill time.

She said she will spend the remaining hours chatting up members across the aisle and talking on the phone, which is allowed because the House won’t be in session.

“It’s time well used,” she said, adding that other members do crossword puzzles or read the newspaper. “And it’s great for networking.”

Capito said she’ll spend the time getting a jump on the week’s work, reading legislation and signing paperwork.

If Capito has to walk away, she’ll leave the stack of paperwork on her seat, a signal to her colleagues that someone has already reserved that spot—or if she has to go far or use the facilities, she has Ros-Lehtinen hold her place for her.

“She watches my back and I watch hers,” Ros-Lehtinen confirmed.

But being on the aisle only goes so far. One must stand out in a room of black, steel gray and navy blue, the lawmakers said.

Capito says she plans to wear something colorful —“absolutely no black”—for the occasion so her constituents can easily pick her out.

“They do notice,” she said. “They always say they saw me.”

Ros-Lehtinen, Capito and others said the secret to scoring an aisle seat comes down to one thing; “timing.”

But if Ros-Lehtinen’s flight is delayed and she has to be feet — not inches— away from the president, the congresswoman said she won’t be disappointed.

“I just saw the president [on Tuesday] to discuss his economic stimulus package,” she said. “I already had my face time with him this week so it won’t be the end of the world.”

And since these members of Congress are so eager to have their face out there go (and I feel that a lot of them do google vanity searches), here you go
Reps.:
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

[Update- Apparently that's a picture of Rep. Ros- Lehtinen's COS, the following is her actual photo; sorry. Thanks to a commenter for pointing that out

and to further make amends here's a picture of her that I originally saw and liked but for some reason decided not to use

Sheila Jackson Lee (I actually like Sheila, but whatevs)

Shelley Moore Capito

Eliot L. Engel

Todd R. Platts

Jean Schmidt

Mary Bono

Michele Bachmann

It really is like the Oscars and the Super Bowl for politicians.

Rambo Kills.

Apparently the new Rambo is violent. Very Violent. Very Very violent which is shocking news especially when one looks at this original trailer

Here’s a chart analyzing Rambo’s rampage(s)

2.59 kills per minute.
Wow. (ps who knew only one person died in the first Rambo?)
In fact the new Rambo is so violent that three movie goers in each theatre will be killed as well by the sheer force and testosterone of the screen.

Looking at that chart something just reminded me of something- I think it was from Hot Shots where Charlie Sheen's character tries to rack up the highest action movie body count

But in all seriousness Stallone and crew should be commended for bringing further attention to the oppression in Burma (something which I was sure I wrote about long ago)

Los Angeles - Sylvester Stallone says he and his "Rambo" sequel movie crew recently witnessed the human toll of unspeakable atrocities while filming along the Myanmar border.

"I witnessed the aftermath - survivors with legs cut off and all kinds of land-mine injuries, maggot-infested wounds and ears cut off," Stallone told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday. "We hear about Vietnam and Cambodia and this was more horrific."

The 61-year-old actor-director returned to the U.S. eight days ago from shooting "John Rambo," the fourth movie in the action series, on the Salween River separating Thailand and Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

Stallone said he was in Thailand for six months, most of it along or on the river.

"This is a hellhole beyond your wildest dreams," Stallone said. "All the trails are mined. The only way into Burma is up the river."

This was before the crackdown last week against the largest pro-democracy protests in Myanmar in two decades. After the government increased fuel prices in August, public anger turned to mass protest against 45 years of military dictatorship. Last week, soldiers responded by opening fire with automatic weapons on unarmed demonstrators.

For decades, Myanmar's army has waged a brutal war against ethnic groups in which soldiers have razed villages, raped women and killed innocent civilians.

The "Rambo" script, written long before the present Myanmar uprising, features boatman John Rambo - the Vietnam War-era Green Beret who specializes in violent rescues and revenge - taking a group of mercenaries up the Salween River in search of missing Christian aid workers in Myanmar. The character "realizes man is just a few paces away from savagery when pushed."

"I called Soldier of Fortune magazine and they said Burma was the foremost area of human abuse on the planet," Stallone said.

Shots were fired over the film crew's head, he said. "We were told we could get seriously hurt if we went on."

"I was being accused, once again, of using the Third World as a 'Rambo' victim. The Burmese are beautiful people. It's the military I am portraying as cruel," he said.

And so he made them pay. 2.59 times per minute.

There Might Be a Slight Difference Here

yesterday when i was, i guess bored and trying to figure out why the bengals are so awful i found myself on the AOL Fanhouse thing and there was an article about Shawne Merriman and the story of two pictures. The first taken in 2005 (left) the second taken this year after he admitted taking steroids accidently
(my question in such a case would be how do you not notice that your neck is twice its normal size? but I think i may be giving a Maryland alum a little too much credit in the fields of intellect and integirty)

But alas, I hate when truth gets in the way of a good story. The picture on the left was actually that of another Chargers' player. Speculation is that "because Merriman held out of minicamp in 2005, the Chargers didn't have him around when they took the official photos, and they just found an old photo of Merriman and pasted it onto Williams' body" (Either way I still strongly dislike the University of Maryland-College Park though not enough to hate; my collegiate athletic hate is reserved for a certain other school.)

Speaking of other doctored photos, and the main reason for this post, was an article from Radar about plastic surgery and what some stars with "very unique" faces would look like if they were to have some work done. While Will Smith didn't change much (still incredibly attractive) and a lot of the other ones did not turn out well (Meryl Streep looks like Faye Dunaway) my absolute favorite and one that I thought would be a wonderful aesthetic improvement (if, of course it wouldn't take away his differentness and he wasn't already an oscar winner) was Adrian Brody.

I think he looks a lot better, but of course what do I know? my tatste are sometimes a little bizarre. and of course beauty is only skin deep, blah blah

Touchdown Jesus Died For Somebody's Sins But Not Mine

I think this may be the most fired up I've ever been for a Duke football game. Quite a few of them were quite alcohol induced events but I just kinda got sad because we're horrible. But this game. Against Notre Dame...
Against a Notre Dame team we can beat...
In South Bend...
On National Television...
Straight Epic. I really am treating it as a bowl game for Duke, because I don't think they'll show the UNC game out here. And it's actually a game where I think all of us Dukies think we can win (i take back my earlier prediction- I didn't realize how god awful ND would be at the beginning of the season.)
There's no way we won't be so fired up today- I mean I could hardly sleep myself, last night (which I attributed to my excitement for the game and not any other reason I want to admit to myself.) I'm so excited I may actually live blog the game, or at least until I can't watch anymore.

But Notre Dame? They're already ear deep in a miserable season and they're not going to be exited or fired up for lil' ol' Duke. But even Lou Holtz, try as he might, can't save their souls

Too bad their current coach is a fat arrogant incompetent asshole...who's really fat. From the L.A. Times
"Rumblings have emanated from faculty too, though many professors do not always feel comfortable speaking out. Privately, some say Weis has never been a favorite, not since he arrived at this stately, Catholic campus three years ago, brazen and arrogant, vowing to produce a "nasty" team.
"His self-described New Jersey personality has rubbed some people the wrong way," said Matt Storin, an adjunct professor of journalism. "They keep quiet when the team is 10-3, but when it's 1-9, they come out of the woodwork."
In this regard, Weis suffers by comparison to his predecessor, Ty Willingham. Willingham was a gentler presence, soft-spoken, often seen bicycling and rollerblading; Weis makes bold statements, then retreats to a fortress-like football complex at the edge of campus."

Kinda like Dick Cheney. I can't even imagine what the new and more legitimate Can Charlie is going to say this afternoon after Duke wins.

But even if we somehow don't I can always take comfort in the fact that, as College Gameballs said, in our minds: "Cars, steaks and cruises… Shit with my degree from Duke I’m going to have all that, as well as bragging rights against all the Notre Dame alumni employed under me after we win Saturday."
Well that, along with the fact that the Fightin' Irish is a horribly racist stereotype and that Rudy was the worst and most overrated movie ever.

::slow clap::

Fight, fight Blue Devils,
Fight for the white and blue!
Break on through --
There's a touchdown there for you!
Go Devils!
Duke is going to win tonight --
Carolina go to Hell! (Eat Shit!)
So turn on the steam, team --
Fight, Blue Devils, fight!

Rip 'em up
Tear 'em up
Give 'em hell, DUKE!

Confused. Once Again

So was yesterday a holiday or not? I kind of took it on faith ever since last week that yesterday was Veterans Day. I've never really been sure of what are and what are not "real holidays" and especially after my time at Duke (2-0) where the only holidays we had were MLK day and when we win a basketball national championship, so when my mom called and told me she didn't have to go to work I assumed she knew what she was talking about.
But then as I was slacking off yesterday I noticed all regularly scheduled programs ( I feel that irregularly scheduling would not be good for ratings) were proceeding, and more importantly to me it seemed that all blogs were blogging per usual. Which made me feel like even more of a lazy bum. But yet there was no mail.
So as I normally do in such occasions of cloudiness (in my mind there are a tonne) I checked wikipedia. According to the Veterans Day page

The Uniform Holidays Bill (Public Law 90-363 (82 Stat. 250)) was signed on June 28, 1968, and was intended to ensure three-day weekends for federal employees by celebrating four national holidays on Mondays: Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day. After protests by veterans' groups, it was moved back to November 11 in 1978 (most states had reverted to the original date during the '70s). Even though it is a federal and state holiday, it is formally observed in most parts of the United States only by government offices and banks. Some schools and almost all businesses stay open on regular schedules. Most public transit systems thus stay on regular schedules. Most businesses cite the holiday's proximity to Thanksgiving (when many businesses close for a four-day weekend) as the main reason for staying open on Veterans Day, but some schools and most businesses also stay open on Columbus Day, a full month earlier.

Anything that causes so much disruption by stopping mail delivery (if i were actually expecting something) and closing the banks (if i had to go) must be a real holiday. Plus i believe in a strong federal government- damn states rights. (and isn't it obvious that capitalism is trampling on our opportunity to remember those soldiers who sacrificed so much for their country? to quote a billy ray cyrus album title: all gave some, some gave all)

Did this post have an actual point, I'm not actually sure. Either way, in conclusion I didn't post much yesterday not because I'm a slacker but rather it's just

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

and I enjoy my laziness. obvs.

About the Last, oh Week or so.

Sorry about that. Anyway my computer, as old and loved as she is kinda broke down a little bit and I had to get a new part that did something with my power supply, I'm not sure exactly but with still trying to move in and having to fly back and forth between L.A. and San Francisco (not to mention I had to specially order it form the Apple Store online) my "hiatus" went on for a little longer than I had planned. But to be completely honest and open I actually finally got the piece last Tuesday night. After a night of letting my computer charge and all that good stuff I was thinking about posting last Wednesday but, in certain regards I'm a little neurotic and I didn't want to start posting again on a day that was the ending of the month and also in the middle of the week. So I decided to wait until the first monday to get this wagon back on its wheels.
What did I do during the time I wasn't tied to this laptop and trying to find content? I'm glad you asked

  • Last Thursday and Friday I read Hubby's letters and responding to them, maybe a little too verbosely. I wrote 3 seperate letters one of which was about 11 pages hand written. We "discussed" objectivism and existentialism and I also discovered that my apartment is less well decorated than is her hut in Burkina Faso.
  • In another example of maybe I really did need this site as a place to ramble, 3 of my guy friends and I started on a Gmail "conversation" that is at more than 200 messages within the past like 13 days. The topics ranged from sports, to sports, to superiority of cities to me writing a response (which I didn't plan on being so angry as it turned out) to my conservative friend who has started using the term "islamofascism" in which I basically told him to put up or shut up and join the military. Then I kinda freaked out and wrote one of my girlfriends if that was too harsh, because I was worried that I'd no longer be his friend (my compulsion to have everyone like me is kind of irritating..like all the time.)
  • Didn't dress up for Halloween for only the second time in the last six years
  • Discovered that my metabolism is pretty insane and that I can lose about 6 pounds in a week just by not eating after 7.
  • Decided that I should go to New York for new years and see friends (all of whom seem to live there.) This travel plan made me realize I need to buy some boots.
  • On Facebook found out there's someone else with my name, a Jacqueline Dey from Australia. I guess she was "the first one" though; she's 3 years older than I.
  • Disengaged from celebrity gossip for the first time in quite awhile. And it felt glorious.
  • Realized I really don't like the cold (something I seem to always forget during the spring and summer months when I think the cold will never come.)
  • Announced that if John Edwards didn't win the presidency that I would renounce my United States citizenship (because I did not want to be associated with people who don't understand that John Edwards is not only the best candidate but also the Hope for our time.
  • Worried at all the press that Barack has been getting in the last week as Hillary seemed to be faltering and started dreading the possibility of Barack making up ground.
  • Almost vomited while reading this article by Andrew Sulivan about "The Great [Half] White Hope" Barack
  • I actually lost sleep writing in my head an article that pretty much said " even if you vote for Barack that doesn't mean you're not racist and in fact you're going so far overboard trying to prove you're not racist that you actually are. If you looked past skin color you'd see John Edwards stands for everything that Barack stole from him, and more. but without the kenyan father."
  • Conspired with my conservative friend to make up campaign signs that say simply "VOTE barack HUSSEIN obama" and plant them throughout the South, and especially in South Carolina. I'm sure that may change a few minds of the good ol' red blooded military families down there. (lee atwater may have been evil, but he won."
  • Marveled at the ownage in John Edwards' "Politics of Parsing" video and answered Time magazine's question in the affirmative.
  • Also while reading Time found out that I'm a bad cat mother.
  • Watched Network like 4 times and decided it was the most prescient and one of the best movies ever and got sorta angry that Rocky won best picture.
  • Finally understood that there are real people out there when I got an email from Jake Lipman about a post I did about her marriage announcement to Philip Rothman. She seems really cool and luckily she wasn't offended. ( I did not realize she starred as the Little Prince. umm..awesome!)
  • Passed out too many nights at like 9:30. Thought that while I had amazing dreams, I should probably get out more.
i'm sure i did something else...who knows? whatevs.

A Quick Sexuality Diagnostic

I should have posted this earlier in the day as a way for you to see if you actually needed to come out today and had never thought about it before but if you're a guy or identify as a guy or are a transman and you get....tingly then you may be gay. Or maybe at least bi; I'm not sure. sexuality and gender and all that is so fluid and swirly. How about this, if this gives you "thoughts" and in your own mind you think you're gay or bi then welcome to the Queer Kids Club:

Who said only females can be the object of the male gaze? but y'know that video doesn't do anything for me. Maybe it's because he's too muscley or maybe I've become a lesbian. Who knows. Whatevs.

Here's the Kinsey Scale so you can try to figure out where you stand
0 Exclusively heterosexual
1 Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual
2 Predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 Equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 Predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 Predominantly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual
6 Exclusively homosexual
X Asexual

though I've decided it's a bit limited. What if when I was a boy I had "homosexual" incidents but now those are more hetero and now fun with girls is homosexual. Is it the mental gender or physical sex. Ok I'm stopping before I wrap my brain around itself and get more confused. and I need to get ready for Ugly Betty/30 Rock/The Office/TMI. I think I'll be X.

That Didn't Go As Planned

Yesterday was a pretty bad sports day I'd say. Not only did the Diamondbacks beat the Cubs (which I was ok with because I had them losing in the next round and plus a century without a world series win is a lot more poetic than 99 years) but my world champion pick Phillies were swept by the Christian Rockies (though you may remember I acknowledged the fact i cursed the Phillies and so they'd probably lose in the first round, if that counts) and moving on to college football not only did U.S.C. lose! to Stanford! but Notre Dame won (though they beat UCLA so that made it a little better.) Not to mention the worst part of the day, Duke losing to Wake by 5 and UNC (cheating, no doubt) somehow beating Miami. It was disgusting and horrible
And here I was planning on starting a series on Silver Foxes (or Old Guys I'd F**k) starting with Pete Carroll and inspired by this article, by Brian Curtis, in Esquire referring to him as a visionary. But after whatever the f*ck happened last night I may have to scrape that whole idea. I blame John David Booty more so I'm not as sour on Pete as this kid is on Urban Meyer- demanding he be fired less than a year after winning a national title and less than a minute after calling him a genius warning extreme testosterone and yelling

and this was before they lost last night as well. That kid is probably experiencing an anger hang over right now. I think i'm over it all- i'm used to disappointment and also my banana nut bread turned out well so i'm happy.

A Reason Why "My" Dog Creeps Me Out

Every so often my brother brings his boyfriend's dogs over to my house so they can run and play in a bigger yard while he goes some place and it never fails to happen that my dog

and he's been neutered (or spayed or whatever you do to boy dogs) for 3 years. I mean he has no doggie balls yet like today when they were in the house for fear of the gardener and I didn't hear or see them for like 10 minutes I find my boy dog fully mounted and on top of my brother's bf's dog and doing that pumping motion (sans penetration) with that weird red penis thing out. It's very disturbing. And it really freaks me out because it seems like he's basically raping her even though he's been castrated. Is that normal? Shouldn't that not happen?
It really just goes to show that no matter the species dicks make guys assholes. (case in point-"Warner Bros president of production Jeff Robinov has made a new decree that "We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead." Funny I thought Cavemen was an ABC TV Studio property. Ass)
(and this was a make up post- I was going to post the video for Gimme More but after a few hours it was taken down from YouTube until I guess the monday premiere. You can see snippets here, but this post was inspired by this.)

Stuff About Sports I Don't Understand And Other Randomness

I turned over to Dancing With the Stars last night in time to see Floyd Mayweather Jr getting his score and that got me thinking- is that wise? Or is he just incredibly overconfident? I mean he has a fight coming up I think in December against Ricky Hatton who I kind of like (he reminds me of a bulldog) and is definitely legit. Shouldn't Floyd be starting training instead of dancing on reality shows? I mean I'm not sure how long boxers usually train but the montages in Rocky made it seem like he was training at least 3 months in advice. He'll probably win Dancing with the Stars because boxers have amazing footwork but I kind of think when it actually counts..well,... go Ricky.

Wtf is Mike Vick doing to his life and career? Seriously testing positive for smoking pot while you're awaiting sentencing doesn't seem like the smartest thing. I mean no one would have cared if he got blitzed drinking, but the guy obviously is screwed. Michael Vick self destructing faster than the Mission Impossible message.

Seems kind of strange to switch your starting goalie who hasn't given up a goal in almost 4 games at this point in the World Cup. How old is Brianna Scurry, seriously? She was the goalie on the '99 team. Doesn't advanced age affect level of play? Shouldn't you stick with the young athletic one who's gotten your team this far? I mean she is a Jedi (or she has to be. Hope Solo? totally Han Solo's kid. And the coolest name ever)

I don't understand college football scheduling. Michigan, four games into the season is finally going on the road after playing 4 straight home games. All total they'll play 8 games out of a 12 game regular season at home. How does that work out? Shouldn't they just try to have half home and half away games each year so like next year they won't have to be the road team 8 times, which I assume will happen in the interest of balance, right? I mean with such a home schedule and the intimidating home field advantage that is Wallace Wade stadium, Duke would definitely win the ACC. But even without it, according to SI's full college rankings we own Carolina. Duke's the 87th best team, while Carolina is ranked 97th. (I take small victories during football season)

It doesn't really matter though because Duke is going downhill. The new admission policy for games is seeming like a lottery system which defeats the whole purpose and beauty of K-Ville which is the most amazing place at Duke and probably anywhere. Duke as a school doesn't have all the traditions of other more staid schools and K-Ville and tenting and waiting in line for days was one and a tremendous one at that, founded by drunk guys playing quarters. I won't rant anymore about it because only a few of you would understand, it would be too emotional and long (and I don't want to be accused again of not being able to let go of college) but it is a sad day and the Cameron Crazies, who have been for years (my time as well) living off the reputation forged by those who preceded us in the 80s, if they accept this pseudo lottery, that name, that Crazy should be buried. That is all. ::tear:: Dear Ol' Duke.

And finally you remember how I picked the NFL season and the Super Bowl winner a few weeks back? Yeah just keep that in mind whenever I ask you to trust me or I predict something; My teams the Bengals and Saints are like a combined 1-5

Grading My Picks for the Emmys

Back in that long ago age of July when the Emmy nominations first came out I made a list of who I thought should, or at least I wanted to win. In the couple of categories I cared about . I didn't watch the ceremony last night because being on the West Coast and having it tape delayed is a little annoying and archaic, especially when you can go online before the broadcast and see who already won (that really can't help the ratings.) I assume She-Who-Will-Soon-Lose-Custody didn't appear because I'm sure I would have immediately heard all about that. But here's what I thought would happen and here's what did:

Variety Music or Comedy Series: I though Colbert Report would win. No, of course it was the Daily Show. 0 for 1

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: I hoped that Jenna (Pam) Fishcer would win but though Vanessa Williams would win as a part of the Ugly Betty Avalanche. No, Jamie Pressly won. She's good and all but.... Vanessa is so conniving and bitchy and fabulous and I heart Pam. Let's move on. 0 for 2

Supporting Actress in a Dram Series: I picked Sandra Oh in a toss up with Katherine Heigl for no real reason but I knew Katherine would win. I count that as a point. 1/3

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: I at first thought Shatner would win but then I found out Masi Oka went to my high school so he become my pick and my hope. Of course not. Crushed by LOST which I don't watch and won't bad mouth (in the hopes that the LOST fans won't excoriate me.) I am disappointed though. 1/4

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: I couldn't decide and refused to choose between Rainn Wilson, NPH and Piven so in a way I was right. I count that. 2/5

Actor in a Comedy Series: I thought Alec Baldwin would win and I wanted him to as well. If not him I at least thought it would be Carell. Wrong and Wrong. Ricky Gervais won, which will the show is pretty funny is not his best and seriously Baldwin as Jack is so so so good. I'm shocked, disappointed and a little peeved (and not just because I was wrong) 2/6

Actress in a Comedy Series: God Bless America. 3/7 (and p.s. she should win just for how "ugly" they make her. She is gorgeous!)

Actor in a Drama Series: No no no. I thought that any thinking person would recognize how beyond amazing Hugh Laurie is on that show and especially in that role. But last night made me remember that Emmy voters aren't thinking people. James Spader he's alright but... Rather upset. 3/8

Actress in a Drama Series: I kind of wanted Patricia Arquette to win because seeing her wasted and with green eyeshadow made me feel a bond but I thought Kyra Sedgwick would actually win, because it is such a good show and he's great in it and without her there is no show but it was Sally Field coming out of nowhere which upset me at the time ( I thought if it wasn't any of my choices it would go to Edie) but the fact she was censored for an anti-war speech makes me happy and tempted to sat "you go girl" (though I never would). Gidget grown up. Well done. Three for Nine

Best Comedy Series: As I said earlier I thought there would be an Ugly Betty sweep and I so I believed Ugly Betty would win though I hoped and wanted 30 Rock to pull it out. I'm quite happy now. 4 for 10.

Best Drama Series: I'm a House fan so I thought/hoped it could find a way but I recognized the phenomenon that is the Sopranos and understood that it would be sent off into the sunset on a horse instead of with a limp. I was right. R.I.P. Tony.

Final score 5 out of 10. I guess I'm okay with that score. I mean s Two and a Half men didn't win anything big so I can't be too angry.

Addendum

So as I was on various trains this weekend I remembered that in my post regarding Book 7 from a week or so ago I omitted a few songs that were stuck in my head. (here it is again if you don't remember the passage in question or are too lazy to click the previous link)

As happens to me for a lot of books that I read, certain songs would get stuck in my head as I read; I remember when I read It I had Outkast's Aquemini and Chonkyfire stuck in my head constantly. Anyway for Book 7 these were the songs that came in and out of my head .

50 Cent-Wanksta (mp3)
The Notorious B.I.G.- Somebody's Gotta Die (mp3)
Crowded House- Don't Dream It's Over (mp3)
Star Wars ( John Williams)- Duel of The Fates (mp3)
Morrissey- There is A Place in Hell For Me And My Friends (mp3)
(and only in the past few days realizing that it is actually over)
Bob Dylan- It's All Over Now, Baby Blue. (mp3)

Anyway I guess it was when they came on my iPod but I remembered that reading It I had Method Man's Dangerous Grounds, and Perfect World stuck in my head for a good length of time as well.
As for reading Potter, I'm quite upset that I omitted this but I had these two songs stuck in my head as well. I think they fit in nicely and they're awesome songs as well:
Radiohead- Optimistic (video) (lyrics) (mp3)
Eurythmics- I Saved The World Today (video) (lyrics) (mp3)

John Edwards and other lesser politco news

So remember how excited we all were when the story was leaked that Brad Pitt and Angelina got into a huge fight because Brad supports Barack and Angelina supports John Edwards? Well now she's denying those reports. It's okay Angelina no matter what you say I understand and will continue to believe that you, Angelina Jolie, support John Edwards. I mean you don't want to be like Flip Flop Romney now do ya? If you really wanna retain your cool factor you'll hop back on the bandwagon now (he's still leading in Iowa!), because going purely straight and vanilla removes some of the coolness aura.
Plus that "eternal arbiter of coolness and present day hipness (just read the first few paragraphs) Rolling Stone magazine, in their latest issue (the one with Zac Efron on the cover, the pretty pretty boy that he is; women can't help but love him) has a story about John Edwards calling him "The Real Liberal With Big Ideas." It's a pretty good and glowing article and I wish I could find it online but I'll keep trying so I can give you some good quotes (I can only be expected to cut and paster- typing is far too much work)

Oh and I am removing my support of Bill Richardson for the VP spot until he clarifies or thinks about his idea that "homosexuality is a choice." And Bill, your reasoning that you're "not a scientist" needs work. I think I may start leaning back to my original ticket of Edwards/Biden; the many positives and ethnicity of Richardson be damned. Just kidding. Kind of.

Finally I feel so so bad for the good President Bush. It has to be so hard to have your son destroying the world and doing it so incompetently that the whole world hates and criticizes him. George H.W. actually deserved to be President and seems to be a truly good man ; his son Georgie well it probably would have been better for everyone if he had stuck with the bottle instead of the bible.

I Almost Forgot

On Slate I found this visual story on and analysis of Ingmar Bergman's soap commercials. I've had it bookmarked for a while now, waiting for today so I would be quite angry if I had to keep it for another week, not that it's not interesting because it really is, but after he's dead for another week he's old news obviously. But seriously, I just don't like clutter. Everything in its proper place, my dear.

(btw, here is the link that was mentioned at the end of the clip if you wanna see more.)

Whoopsie

So you know how last week I was quite excited about the comedic stylings and observational wit of Gilbert Arenas? Will it looks like he stole that bit from a (previously; before all this happened) unknown comic named Ian Edwards. Gilbert seems to be taking it all in stride ( I guess being single, young, rich and hot has a nice soothing quality) and I'm not too upset. It introduced me to a pretty funny act (Ian Edwards is getting some nice pub out of it) and he's still funnier and more honest than Carlos Mencia (as much as I hate Joe Rogan).
Here's the Ian Edwards stand up where the Shark Attack joke is from (and I totally agree with his point on African American as opposed to Black; I know I'm too lazy for those extra six syllables. )
