though I made that mistake.(though I guess it could be thought that both are against and exposing the dangers of a greedy capitalistic system.) sorry for the digression; it happens- i'm red.
Anyway I don't know if I want to see The International, it kind of reminds me of The Firm, but I do love Clive Owens. Here's the trailer
My questions- what bank in this climate has the money or power to be that devious and murderous? And couldn't they just wait out The International and wait for it to collapse? I mean in this economy it's bound to happen sooner rather than later. Though I think it's great timing to have a financial institution as a villain.
The amazing sound of the killing hordes The day the banks collapse on us Cease this endless chattering Like everything is fine When sorry is not good enough Sit in the back while no-one drives
(the two loves are centered and on the right; the little sister was to be a witness)
It's a short but undeniably sweet story so I'll just yoink a lot of it (from The Daily Mail)
Police in Hanover, northern Germany, identified the pair only as Mika and Anna-Lena, who have different parents but now share a home in the city's suburbs after his father and her mother moved in together.
The story began on New Year's Eve when the family were watching a documentary about Africa and its wildlife.
'From this, the children began to make plans for the future,' said police spokesman Holger Jureczko.
The two youngsters were 'very much in love and decided to get married in Africa where it is warm, taking with them as a witness Anna-Lena's little sister Anna-Bell'.
As the first dawn of 2009 broke, the trio packed three suitcases with all the essentials for the journey, including sunglasses, swimming trunks, a lilo [air mattress], summer clothes and sandwiches made from chicken paste and processed cheese.
While their parents slept, they crept out of the house wrapped up against the freezing weather and walked two-thirds of a mile up the road to a tram stop from where they caught the service to the central station.
Waiting for a train to the airport 30 miles away, they attracted the attention of the guard, who contacted police.
Two officers managed to convince the young lovers that they would struggle to get to Africa without money or a plane ticket. 'They were very put out that they couldn't carry on their journey,' added Mr Jureczko.
'But they calmed down when they were promised a hot drink and some breakfast.'
As a further consolation, the children were given a tour of police headquarters where they were 'especially taken with the detention cells'.
Their relieved parents picked them up from the station, said Mr Jureczko, adding: 'They can still put their plan into action at a later date.'
Usually I’m opposed to all manipulations or remixes of Radiohead’s stuff (just on the principle of why mess with perfection) but this album is unique enough to catch and keep my ear and is just pretty damn hot.
Rainydayz Remixes is composed exclusively of source material pulled from In Rainbows, re-envisioned by Amplive and complimented by vocal work from Too $hort, MC Zumbi of Zion I, Chali2na of Jurassic 5, Codany Holiday, and Del The Funky Homosapien.
After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive's Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Well, here they are.
While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publically available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. Effective immediately, the eight-track record is available.
"The Bay Area producer (Akon, Talib Kweli)/half of Zion I has scrapped together a project dubbed Rainydayz Remixes, culling six IR cuts and chopping 'em up, spiking the punch with varying degrees of embellishments. "Weird Fishes" stays true to the original's arc -- one groove, one progression; slowly grooving, slowly progressing -- spiced up with a fake finish, some Thom tinkering and a Radiohead-meets-Neptunes-enhanced-JT beat. Ain't nobody love you like I love you, etc." - Stereogum
"Wow. California MC Amplive slices and dices a (let's face it, kind of bloodless) new Radiohead song and turns it into a sleek and simmering hip-hop track. If more of In Rainbows sounded like this, we might not feel so chapped about shelling out for the discbox." - Rollingstone.com
"Why can't hip-hop and indie rock values segue together as gracefully, as artfully, as Oakland DJ-producer Amplive's trip-hop–tinged remix of "Nude," a suturing together of his group Zion I's "Don't Lose Ya Head" and Radiohead's ethereal hum, with classic Yay touches of Too $hort?" - SF Bay Guardian
"Rainydaze Remixes is most effective when it is at its boldest, accelerating the dreary original of 'All I Need' into hard-nosed trip hop punctuated by stabbing brass, or transforming 'Weird Fishes' into a gentle drift downstream." - Guardian UK
"One standout track from the project is "Weird Fishes," which Amplive has transformed from a synthesizer-and-guitar odyssey into an ominous electro-trance expedition. Some other strong tracks feature guests: The pimp-rap specialist Too $hort enlivens a bass-boosted "Nude," and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien triples the verbiage on "Videotape."" - New York Times
“they only did it cause of fame” From Strange Glue comes another reason I hate corporations
Poor Radiohead. Ever intelligent to come up with new ways to startle the music industry, to turn it up on its head and managing to embarrass their former label EMI in the process.
Yet EMI will fight back the traditional way this summer, striking the cash piƱata that is Radiohead’s back catalogue, by releasing a “Greatest Hits” album, something the band say they are powerless to stop.
Ed O’Brien recently interviewed by the Canadian music press said that “They’re [EMI] planning to do a greatest hits for April or May to coincide with our tour, that’s an interesting one. We won’t be doing any promotion for that, obviously.”
The news comes swiftly on the heels of new EMI boss Guy Hands stated policy, to start using the back catalogue of their artists to beef up profits. Something that was quite apparent when EMI released the seven disc Radiohead boxset at the same time as the band unveiled ‘In Rainbows’.
Quite whether EMI will go the whole hog and get the album sponsored as they’ve been reflecting upon recently remains to be seen.
EMI-The Sex Pistols were right about you even 30 years on
an unlimited supply and there is no reason why i tell you it was all a frame they only did it 'cos of fame who? e.m.i. e.m.i. e.m.i. too many people had the suss too many people support us an unlimited amount too many outlets in and out who? e.m.i. e.m.i. e.m.i. and sir and friends are crucified a day they wish that we had died we are an addition we are rivaled by none never ever never and you thought that we were faking that we were all just money making you do not believe we're for real or you would lose your cheap appeal? oh don't you judge a book just by the cover unless you cover just another and blind acceptance is a sign of stupid fools who stand in line like e.m.i. e.m.i. e.m.i. unlimited edition with an unlimited supply that was the only reason we all had to say goodbye unlimited supply e.m.i. there is no reason why e.m.i. i tell you it was all a frame e.m.i. they only did it 'cos of fame e.m.i. i do not need the pressure e.m.i. i can't stand those useless fools e.m.i. unlimited supply e.m.i. hallo e.m.i. goodbye a & m
You really don’t want to piss off a band who’s fan base is so rabid and obsessive for a few bucks selling a greatest hits collection that most any true fan wouldn’t need because they already have the full catalog, plus concert bootlegs, plus unreleased b-sides. And I don’t know any Radiohead fan who would buy something that the band is so against. Making people mad because of your greed with no real profit to be gained from it.This is why the record companies are all dying

Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe in Anything” (When I played this song last night my dog got freaked out and confused by the beginning)
Give me your eyes I need sunshine Give me your eyes I need sunshine Your blood, your bones Your voice, and your ghost
We've both been very brave Walk around with both legs Wait for the scary day We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves
But I'll believe in anything And you'll believe in anything Said I'll believe in anything And you'll believe in anything
If I could take the fire out from the wire I'd share a life and you'd share a life If I could take the fire out from the wire I'd share a life and you'd share a life If I could take the fire out from the wire I'd take you where nobody knows you And nobody gives a damn Said nobody knows you And nobody gives a damn
And I could take another hit for you And I could take away your trips from you And I could take away the salt from your eyes And take away the spitting salt in you And I could give you my apologies By handing over my neologies And I could take away the shaking knees And I could give you all the olive trees Oh look at the trees and look at my face And look at a place far away from here
So give me your eyes I need sunshine Give me your eyes I need sunshine Your blood, your bones Your voice, and your ghost
We've both been very brave Walk around with both legs Wait for the scary day We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves
But I'll believe in anything And you'll believe in anything
If I could take the fire out from the wire I'd share a life and you'd share a life If I could take the fire out from the wire I'd share a life and you'd share a life If I could take the fire out from the wire I'd take you where nobody knows you And nobody gives a damn I said nobody knows you And nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you And nobody gives a damn either way About your blood, your bones Your voice, and your ghost Because nobody knows you And nobody gives a damn either way

15 Step by Radiohead
How come I end up where I started How come I end up where I went wrong Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string
How come I end up where I started How come I end up where I went wrong Won't take my eyes off the ball again You reel me out then you cut the string
You used to be alright What happened? Did the cat get your tongue Did your string come undone One by one One by one It comes to us all It's as soft as your pillow
You used to be alright What happened? Etcetera etcetera Facts for whatever Fifteen steps Then a shear drop
because that last post reminded me of it and it is my absolute favorite South Park episode (having Radiohead was just icing on the cake) (in case you didn't know it's based on Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, which was made into a phenomenal if bloody movie by Julie Taymor, which you should all see)
And “director” commentary with Trey Parker and Matt Stone (unless it's Matt Parker and Trey Stone
I still can't resist an easy "gimme" joke. Anyway this is "Scotch Mist-A Film with Radiohead in it" made for New Year's Eve It features every song on their new album and it is a lot of fun watching them play in studio and “seeing how the magic happens” like hwat their choice in clothing, Thom in a navy blue hoodie Phil in a rather nice shirt playing together in what seems like motel room. Plus at certain points, like during Weird Fishes/Arpeggi my head starts bobbing like Thom
and no I didn’t watch this on New Year’s (I’m not that much of a nerd, but I also forgot about it) Ok now commencing last minute political propaganda
I have a pretty complicated relationship with Muse. i first heard of them in 2004 when my esteemed partner in LME introduced me to them and I immediately liked. The singer reminded and was obviously influenced by Thom Yorke. Anyway my Everlyn and I were talking about them and she said something like "yeah they're like Radiohead, but better" which as all my friends have learned is blasphemy to me. I'm not sure if I spoke to here for two weeks but as much as I wanted to punish Muse for her heresy I couldn't; you can't deny talent.(though I'm still unnecessarily bitter enough to not throw myself wildly behind them) And that talent is so so clear and on display in Stockholm Syndrome, such a kick ass, heavy soaring song that begs to be played loudly. And I usually oblige, singing along (poorly no doubt) to the falsetto parts even though I never knew the lyrics besides "this is the last time I'll abandon you" until this night:
I won't stand in your way Let your hatred grow And she'll scream and she'll shout and she'll pray And she had a name, yeah she had a name
I won't hold you back Let your anger rise And we'll fly and we'll fall and we'll burn No one will recall, no one will recall
This is the last time I'll abandon you And this is The last time I'll forget you I wish I could
Look to the stars Let hope burn in your eyes And we'll love and we'll hate and we'll die All to no avail, all to no avail
This is the last time I'll abandon you And this is The last time I'll forget you I wish I could
This is the last time I'll abandon you And this is The last time I'll forget you I wish I could I wish I could
(they say that is you play the chorus backwards the song says "You can't see me, you sneak off. I lost to love. Please ... save me")
Here are the videos and...the European version is pretty horrible, the US one is better but Muse is known as an awesome live band (they were one of my 5 favorite concerts I think) and so here is an awesome (in the original sense of the word) live performance of Your Stuck in My Head Song of The Day- Stockholm Syndrome by Muse

I saw on green plastic that they had a link to the Boney King of Nowhere who acquired and scanned the cd lyric booklet for Radiohead's In Rainbows and so I thought I'd pass it along to you all. Because I do like pretty pictures. Happy December.

This morning and for the past few days actually I've been a little nervous about something I have to do this week (something that will probably take me away from a computer until maybe thursday night) and so in an attempt to think positive and try to make myself less nervous I repeated the line from Radiohead's Optimistic " if you try the best you can, the best you can is good enough" it's a mantra thats kinda calmed me down (even though I'm not one that believes in "A"s for Effort) It's actually kinda amazing that after I don't know how many listens of this song over the past oh so many years I still didn't know the lyrics
Flies are buzzing round my head Vultures circling the dead Picking up every last crumb The big fish eat the little ones The big fish eat the little ones Not my problem, give me some
You can try the best you can If you try the best you can The best you can is good enough If you try the best you can If you try the best you can The best you can is good enough
This one's optimistic This one went to market This one just came out of the swamp This one dropped a payload Fodder for the animals Living on animal farm
If you try the best you can If you try the best you can The best you can is good enough If you try the best you can If you try the best you can The best you can is good enough
I'd really like to help you, man I'd really like to help you, man Nervous messed up marionettes Floating around on a prison ship
If you try the best you can If you try the best you can The best you can is good enough If you can try the best you can If you try the best you can Dinosaurs roaming the Earth Dinosaurs roaming the Earth Dinosaurs roaming the Earth
I always thought "This one just came out of the swamp" was "this one just came out a swan" and the echoing close of "Dinosaurs roaming the Earth" was really " the best souls win in the end" I kinda like my lyrics in that second example. But either way here is Your Stuck in My Head Song of The Day- Optimistic by Radiohead (and this video was surprisingly hard to find)
In honor of Radiohead who today in an interstellar burst came back to save the universe today's Your Simply Amazing Stuck in My Head Song of The Day is Airbag by Radiohead. About the song from Green Plastic: Thom in Select: "Has an airbag saved my life? Nah...but I tell you something, every time you have a near accident, instead of just sighing and carrying on, you should pull over, get out of the car and run down the street screaming, 'I'm BACK! I'm ALIVE! My life has started again today!'. In fact, you should do that every time you get out of a car. We're just riding on those things - we're not really in control of them."
Ed: "It's about the wonderful, positive emotion you feel when you've just failed to have an accident; when you just miss someone and realise how close it was and stop the car and just feel this incredible elation. There's something joyous about it- life suddenly seems more precious."
In the next world war in a jack knifed juggernaut, I am born again.
In the neon sign, scrolling up and down, I am born again.
In an interstellar burst, I am back to save the universe.
In a deep deep sleep, of the innocent, I am born again.
In a fast German car, I'm amazed that I survived, an airbag saved my life.
In an interstellar burst, I am back to save the universe.
In an interstellar burst, I am back to save the universe.
In an interstellar burst, I am back to save the universe.
I'm sure there are like a million In Rainbow reviews on the internet so that's not what I'm doing. I don't think I've listened to it enough to decide where it is in the pantheon of Radiohead albums but from what my few listens tell me is the songs range from the Songs that Are Brilliant to Songs that I Absolutely Adore (and no you will never hear me say a negative or even non glowing word about Radiohead- unconditional love is my thing) But what I wanted to do was post a few mp3s of songs that are on the new album, that I've had for awhile in radically different and "in progress" forms.
The most shocking transformation to me was Reckoner. The version that I had has been described by Green Plastic as "thrashy" and angry, which is not what the album version is at all. Here are the lyrics to the old Reckoner
feeling pulled apart by horses. fobbed off with lame shite excuses. feeling pulled apart by horses.
i've no sons and i have no daughters feeling pulled apart by horses. inseckt bites. machine-gun-cameras your not asleep your not dreaming this is not a dream. this here is the
reckoner papapa reckoner papapapa reckoner
You can see how underdeveloped it might seem. The album version blows it away Reckoner- mp3
Arpeggi was another song that I'd had for a while and while Weird Fishes/Arpeggi isn't totally different the second half of Weird Fishes' Arpeggi takes it to another level. This version is from their first performance of it at the Ether Festival in 2005 and the first couple of dozen times I listened to it I misheard the lyric Everybody leaves If they get the chance And this is my chance as Everybody Leads, which is a lot more motivational and inspirational but really isn't Radioheadish. Anyway here's the old Arpeggi Arpeggi -mp3
Here is the solo version of Videotape, which I posted last week in my anticipation of today (along with an mp3 of Down is the New Up, which is on the bonus disc that I don't know how to get)
That is really one of those songs I adore- it's so beautiful and the lyrics: When I'm at the pearly gates This will be on my videotape, my videotape Mephistopheles is just beneath and he's reaching up to grab me
This is one for the good days and i have it all here In red, blue, green Red, blue, green
You are my center When i spin away Out of control on videotape On videotape On videotape On videotape
This is my way of saying goodbye Because I can't do it face to face I'm talking to you after it's too late From my videotape
No matter what happens now You shouldn't be afraid Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen.
and that feeling of talking to someone from a great distance of either time or space or between life and death and trying to remember the beauty that once was, really reminds me of another old Radiohead song A Reminder, which I would have killed to have written
If I get old I will not give in But if I do Remind me of this
Remind me that Once I was free Once I was cool Once I was me
And if I sat down And crossed my arms Hold me into This song
Knock me out Smash out my brains If I take a chair Start to talk shit
If I get old Remind me of this That night we kissed And I really meant it
Whatever happens If we're still speaking Pick up the phone Play me this song. (mp3) voicemail and videotape, links to the past as to what we once were and who we once loved. and finally another song of the bonus disc Last Flowers, which I first fell in love with as Last Flowers Til Hospital. As I mentioned before I don't have the bonus disc (aagh) so I don't know how different it is but as long as it has the same lyrics it must be perfect Last Flowers (Til Hospital)-mp3
I love this band so much. such beauty should be outlawed....
Today I was kind of lazily waiting for a song to inspire me and hang around for a bit. I was thinking about continuing the revolutionary vibe of this morning with Gil Scott Heron, but I think that vibe kind of left around the same time I made a post around kangaroo boxings and so when Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight by Amos Lee came on it totally was what I needed (i really think i overdosed on estrogen; i have such a headache.) It really mellowed me nicely. And there's definitely beauty in the images he paints with his lyrics
Well I walked over the bridge Into the city where I live and I saw my old landlord Well we both said hello There was no where else to go Cause his rent I couldn’t afford
Well relationships change Though I think it’s kind of strange how money makes a man grow Ah, some people they claim if you get enough fame You live over the rainbow Over the rainbow But the people on the street, Out on buses or on feet We all got the same blood flow
Oh in society every dollar got a deed We all need a place that we can go and feel over the rainbow
Some times we forget what we got And who we are and who we are not I think we got a chance to make it right Keep it loose Keep it tight Keep it tight
I’m in love with a girl who’s in love with the world Though I can’t help but follow Though I know someday she is bound to go away and stay over the rainbow Got to learn how to let her go Over the rainbow
But sometimes we forget who we got Who they are and who they are not
There is so much more in love than black and white Keep it loose child You gotta keep tight Keep it loose child Keep it tight
and it is such a smooth and chill song (that I was surprised to find he was white*) you just wanna get lost in it. So here's Your Stuck in My Head Song of the Day, Amos Lee's "Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight"
Amos Lee- Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight (mp3) buy Amos Lee (the album, not the man)
and I really don't want to head all the way over the rainbow; i'd much prefer to fall into one. And so that's where you can find me tomorrow, if I seem miles away. Look for me somewhere In Rainbows....
*that voice and this picture? it's not totally racist.
In honor of it being T- A Few Hours until In Rainbow is downloadable Best Week Ever has provided an exclusive review, and I must say, even if it were true I still wouldn't be disappointed (links are mine- grammar is theirs)
1. 15 STEP - A lot of squiggly computer noises (or maybe a theramin), then a big explosion of some sort, a loop of a kitten dying, and the song fades out. Moving, beautiful, important.
2. BODYSNATCHERS - Some noodling around on a guitar, someone appears to be crying, with ghosts moaning in the background. I’m really starting to get into this record.
4. WEIRD FISHES/ARPEGGI - Dan Rather is reading about war on the evening news, but his voice slowly morphs into some kind of satanic robot, and the whole song ends with a little girl humming the Hallelujah Chorus.
5. ALL I NEED - After opening with the sound of a Jack-In-the-Box, the song explodes into unholy brain-demolishing death metal while Thom Yorke screams and screeches in Space Alien language gibberish. Stunning, their finest achievement since OK Computer.
6. FAUST ARP - I’d say this sounds like sort of a hardcore hip-hoppy version of the opening theme music from The Price Is Right. Definitely gonna be a bangin’ club track.
7. RECKONER - This just appears to be REO Speedwagon’s song “Can’t Fight This Feelin”, in its orginal form, untampered with. Strange, but amazing and genius (just like we’ve come to expect from the boys in Radiohead)!
9. JIGSAW FALLING INTO PLACE - This is literally an industrial-grade jigsaw cutting through concrete for a minute and a half, then shutting off. A perfect change of pace.
10. VIDEOTAPE - This is just 37 seconds of silence, followed by a gunshot. Really catchy, the perfect conclusion to what will undoubtedly be the most accomplished, challenging work of musical genius we can expect to hear this year!
Sounds brilliant to me. Though of course this is the same girl who found Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music oddly soothing. Ah i really can't wait...i'm tingly. (and for the record for In Rainbows I spent 7 pounds. that's fair, right?)
after that last post and the news about Radiohead's new album In Rainbows being released in a matter of days, I only have one thing on my mind. And so in an attempt to not solely focus on that news I'm going to try to exorcise thoughts for a little a bit. Here are a few videos of Thom Yorke performing a few new songs on From The Basement
here's Videotape (a version of which will be on In Rainbows)
and Down is the New Up (which is a motto for my life)
this is easily the best news I have heard in like forever that was from Radiohead's web site and in case you couldn't read it said "Hello everyone.
Well, the new album is finished, and it's coming out in 10 days;
We've called it In Rainbows.
Love from us all."
I must say I really love the title In Rainbows, it's a lot more hopeful, or utopic title than Hail to the Thief (but of course they could have named it Dog Shit and I would think it was beautiful and symbolic and deep. But that's already been done) Ten days. that's the tenth. but preorders are being sold only on Radiohead.com and Apparently they're letting people pay whatever they want, which could be bad but I trust in the goodness and fairness of Radiohead fans, and especially the love they feel for the band. I'd drop a twenty. There's some more specific information here that you can check out because I can't type right now, waaay too excited. Ok I'm going to go do that whole breathing into a paper bag thing, for effect and because I'm really kinda out of breath.
Ugh. I don't understand how I've done 500 of these. (or 499 before this one, to be specific) I've included other anniversary post below if you wanna see how this blog has (degenerated) evolved though they're all really kind of awkward and I don't understand how it worked out so that all of them seem to be Confessionals or TMIs What a long strange trip it's been: 1st Post 100th Post 200th Post 300th Post (this is probably the only worthwhile one of these) 400th Post
But since 500 is a bigger number and thus better and more important I wanted to do something kind of different. I wanted to share with you a song I adore. I was thinking about calling it my favorite song, though I think a favorite song would be one you listen to and sing all the time, and I don't really do that for this song and plus I don't think I have a single favorite (though according to my iTunes playlist my most played is, I think Joy Division's Warsaw-go me.) Rather Pyramid Song is probably the song that is most important to me. It's the song I listen to at those important moments (the last time the morning of my graduation.) whenever I'm down or need reassurance, it is a reminder that everything is not horrible and that I can get through whatever I need to. It calms me down and soothes me and... tells me there is nothing really to be afraid of. That everything will be alright. It is pretty much sacred to me and I thought this 500th post was a fitting and honorable enough occasion to show it.
i jumped in the river and what did i see? black-eyed angels swimming with me a moon full of stars and astral cars all the figures i used to see all my lovers were there with me all my past and futures and we all went to heaven in a little row boat
there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt
i jumped in the river black-eyed angels swimming with me a moon full of stars and astral cars all the figures i used to see all my lovers were there with me all my past and futures and we all went to heaven in a little row boat
there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

So that was post 500. (can i stop now?) Onto 501...
First a confession, because if I achieve nothing else on this site I try to be totally honest, I could not think of a single song that was in my head today. The only thing I could think of was Juliette Lewis' cover of PJ Harvey's "Hardly Wait" but it didn't feel right and the video didn't have the whole song. And after my last post, which I think sucks, and the alcohol in my system I got rather emotional and tried to find a perfect song that would convey what I was feeling, whatever this indescribable feeling is, or at least something related to the last post. So I skipped through songs in my library for about 90 minutes, discarded some immediately, thinking others would have to do, and thinking about maybe just saying fuck it and not having one tonight. Because after having a lot of really good posts today the last two, the most important two would end up being horrible. All the while feeling like more of a failure and getting closer and closer to crying. But then Radiohead's True Love Waits began to play (or more specifically Thom Yorke's solo version from a school benefit) and I began to think, naturally, of Hubby and how this is the first Thursday Thursday that I haven't spoken to her, through e-mail at the least, and how this is the first of too too many until September of 2009, and it is kind of like love; you know when you know and I knew that no other song would be so perfect, no other song could take me out of my weird drunken state of self pity than one that makes me think of her. And the song is beyond tremendous, one of my top 10 all time I'd say,I can't even describe it really. So i won't even try but leave you with the lyrics here and a mp3 version below, with a youtube performance in between.
Radiohead- True Love Waits (mp3) Man I love that band. God, I really miss Julia. Okay I'm going to cry happier tears when I fall asleep tonight. I guess that's enough.
So as I was on various trains this weekend I remembered that in my post regarding Book 7 from a week or so ago I omitted a few songs that were stuck in my head. (here it is again if you don't remember the passage in question or are too lazy to click the previous link)
As happens to me for a lot of books that I read, certain songs would get stuck in my head as I read; I remember when I read It I had Outkast's Aquemini and Chonkyfire stuck in my head constantly. Anyway for Book 7 these were the songs that came in and out of my head .
Anyway I guess it was when they came on my iPod but I remembered that reading It I had Method Man's Dangerous Grounds, and Perfect World stuck in my head for a good length of time as well. As for reading Potter, I'm quite upset that I omitted this but I had these two songs stuck in my head as well. I think they fit in nicely and they're awesome songs as well: Radiohead- Optimistic (video) (lyrics) (mp3) Eurythmics- I Saved The World Today (video) (lyrics) (mp3)
Today I had quite a number of quality songs stuck in my head Radiohead's "Exit Music for a Film" the Dresden Dolls "Missed Me" Nellie McKay's "Really" and B.I.G.'s "Things done changed" all these songs were amazing and I have no doubt that at some point they will find their way into this spot, but the one I had to start my day is also the one that finished it. I was in the shower thinking about Hubby and other important people in my life and the line "I thank God there are people out there like you" stayed in my head. It's from Elton John's "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" a song that blew me away the first time I heard. I think I had the Mandy Moore version in my head; I've never really listened to her but I like her as an actress and she always was the prettiest of that crop of pop singers, so I always dealt with her favorably in my mind. And it is a really outstanding version, in my opinion. Anyway because of that above line, and the fact that many of my friends are starting off in the corporate world this song and its lyrics really spoke to me, one who is trying to eschew all that that life entails-I'd much rather see the sky. Here's Elton singing in back in 1972, it's a fairly stripped down version but still breathtaking; I hope you like it and it touches some part of you.
