...We don't need no water, let the motherf--ker burn

So the Eisenhower Building right next to the White House is on fire. From the WaPo article:

The historic Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door to the White House caught fire this morning, and D.C. firefighters responded en masse to fight the blaze.

Firefighters could be seen breaking out windows in the building, formerly known as the Old Executive Office Building. Employees were ordered out of the building, but a White House spokesman said the White House itself was not evacuated.

D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter told CNN the blaze appeared to have started on the third floor of the building, perhaps in an electrical closet.

Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the second and third floors, and water poured from some windows as fire fighters worked to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported, Etter said.

The building, with an exterior of granite, slate and cast iron, was build in the French Second Empire style, between 1871 and 1888 and designed by Supervising Architect of the Treasury Alfred Mullett, according to the White House Web site.

The building originally housed the State, War and Navy Departments, and today houses the majority of the White House staff, including aides to the vice president, the Office of Management and Budget and the National Security Council.

There has been construction going on in the building recently. It was not immediately known whether the fire could have been related to the construction or came from some other cause.

Ah, feels like old times, like 1812. But how perfect a visual metaphor would it be for the last 7 years if the White House were burned to the ground? It would just seem so fitting to the destruction of esteem and trust that people have experienced towards that office under GWeeB and his presidency if we razed it (so that we could build it anew.)

And I really think it's sad that my level of distrust with this administration that one of my first thoughts were-somehow they planned this to destroy evidence and documents in one or many of the Bush Administration scandals.

P.S. I wonder if those firemen are going to hope the fire decides not to burn or fight to put it out.

{and I never knew what song or band that "The Roof is On Fire" came from- I always assumed it was like KC and the Sunshine Band, White Cherry or some other 70s white funk act but it's by Rockmaster Scott And The Dynamic Three from their 1984 album
