Tinged With Envy

I'd Be Lying If I Said I Wasn't Jealous
From the Daily Mail

The pop singer Kim Petras - born Tim - is well known in Germany for having started hormone replacement therapy as part of her gender transition by the age of 12.

Now 16, she completed Gender Reassignment Surgery in November, according to a posting on her blog.

Dr Bernd Meyenburg who heads the Psychiatric Special Outpatient Clinic for Children and Adolescents with Identity Disorders at the University of Frankfurt Hospital said: 'Very few youth psychiatrists have any experience with transsexual developments. The families wander from one psychiatrist to the next.

'I was always against such operations on children so young but after seeing how happy one of my patients was and how well adjusted after returning from having the operation abroad while still a teenager – I realised that in some cases it is the right decision.

In Germany, such operations are not usually allowed until the patient is 18.

However Kim managed to convince doctors when she was just 12 that she should have the surgery.

By 14 she was officially registered as a girl - and was already famous for her choice.

The costs of her procedure were covered by health insurance as her condition was officially diagnosed as an illness.

Ok I think that's just incredible and good for her! She's gorgeous (though perhaps a little generic, which is what most trannies are going for, but also I've discovered most white girls look kinda the same to me.)
But I was thinking about myself because I am obviously the measure of all things and I'm not sure I could've handled anything of this, what I'm going through now, what she's done and is doing at her age. Even though I wanted it so badly and I prayed every night for god to change me (before I lost my faith) I don't think I was "ready" and maybe my family wouldn't have been ready ten years ago- the increase in visibility and acceptance in the last decade has been incredible- but even though I started this whole transition shebang pretty early I wish I had the courage to start earlier so a) I wouldn't feel so disfigured by testosterone but also so I would have been able to enjoy "growing up." One thing I've come to realize is it's pretty hard, maybe not "hard" but it's strange to go from boyhood to becoming a woman without that period of "girlhood" where you're supposed to make bad fashion choices and slip in your heels and be awkward around boys and like at my age I feel that women are supposed to be confident and mature and together and most of the time I don't feel I'm any of those things.
So yeah a part of me is jealous that she was able to start with the support of her family when she was so young, though I might not have gotten the support and the wonderful experiences I've gotten this way, but I should always keep in mind that for every younger tranny that I'm jealous of there are probably at least 4 older ones who transitioned in their 40s after being married and having kids who probably look at me with that same jealousy.
But we're all wonderful and it's great that there are varied experiences because if everyone transitioned at 13,well I don't think we'd be nearly as interesting people.

Anyway Kim is apparently a german pop star but I can't subject myself to european pop music unless I'm really really under some influence so I didn't include any here, but if you're so inclined- enjoy some here.

For everyone else here's some music that I guarantee is better

"Dear Jimmy,"

such a Dear John. I guess Jimmy and Sarah have broken up- no more Sarmmy (or Jimrah), sigh.

It's sad because Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman seemed like such a good couple, but I guess she's moved on to bigger and better things, because now she's fucking Matt Damon

Can You Bend Your Back Like This?

Yeah the rest of this post was really just an excuse to use that title with that picture of Kiira Korpi, a very flexible Finn, because that title is the name of a Milla Jovovich song that I have

Milla Jovovich- Can You Bend Your Back Like This?

In my reckless lifelong rambling
I saw a man break one day
Such a saint, he only lived on paint
He only spoke in prose
Gave his life to save his soul

When he walked out one day
He said, "Please don't believe them
They never understand the triumph the goal of victory
Tell them flippant things and starlet rings
And eyes and nervous laughter
But never say what's on your mind."

Who's gonna take?
And who's gonna swallow?
All these empty dreams back
What of tomorrow?

Wanting more for no abilities
Is this for whom we must provide?
Curse this thing that's called achievement
Curse your striding bounds
Kill the fire in your eyes

Who's gonna take?
And who's gonna swallow?
All these empty dreams back
What of tomorrow?

You see it
But could you ever believe it?
Your fate
But could you really heed it?
Can't help it
But can you bend your back like this?

Take your damn lies and go
I shrugged this world off my shoulders
Pretty crowds who speak and clouds
Great wits of conversation
Skim this life but never live

And here she is performing it on December 16th 1994 at Liberty Lunch in Austin

She’s really more than just a pretty face-

I hate her. Is there anything she’s not good at?

Drink of the Week: The Homecoming

So yeah this is Homecoming Weekend at Duke, and a few other places as well. I had never planned on going because I am nowhere near ready to go back to Duke (and deal with way too much stuff), and plus it seemed imprudent when I'm this broke to fly across the country for two days to drink in a parking lot (and see old friends of course.) But I also didn't realize that everyone basically went back and so not going now makes me a little sad.

And what goes better with sadness then drinking? (whew; found a segue.) So in honor of Homecoming (and the fact I couldn't think of a more creative idea) here are two Homecoming Cocktail recipes- the first is the more well known and popular but the second seems funner and has actual alcohol in it! (plus a cherry!) Bottoms up:

Homecoming Recipe
Ingredients
1 1/4 oz Amaretto
1 1/4 oz Irish Cream

Directions
Pour amaretto and baileys into an ice-filled rocks glass. Add a stirrer, and serve.

Homecoming
Ingredient
Brandy, apricot 1 3/4 oz.
Gin 1 3/4 oz.
Vermouth, dry 1 3/4 oz.
Lemon Juice 1 tsp.
Cherries/Maraschinos 1 whole

Shake all ingredients (except cherry) in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry.

Duke, Dear ol'.

Be Careful What You Wish For

so all of last season and the past year overall I've been wanting and waiting for Jim and Pam (from the Office if you're clueless) to get together and at the end of last season that smile on Pam's face after Jim asked her out was one of those things that's so beautiful it is still one of the best and one of my favorite moments in t.v. in a while.
But now 3 episodes into this season I don't think I like PB and J (Pam Beasley and Jim.) Last night kind of crystallized that fact. They've become way too cutesy and cliquish and what really made me not like them as much as I did (though I can't stay mad) but was when they decided to pull the computer prank on Dwight. I mean it was hilarious but as Pam first said before she agreed to it, Dwight was going through a break up and selling was his way to do it, to take his mind off of it. But Jim thought he was being annoying (which he was of course, but he's Dwight, that's what he did) Dwight was the only one in the office actually working and working quite efficiently and well while Jim was conspiring; I bet Jim didn't sell 940 reams (or whatever they sell). And then at the launch party I can see why Jim wanted to go to the roof but it just seemed cliquish and annoying (though I have a few issues with hook ups in groups of friends because it changes the dynamic and the couple tend to remove themselves, which sucks) though I can see how it might be romantic.

But what was really romantic was when Andy put his friends on speaker phone and did "Take a Chance on Me" a cappela to try to convince Angela to do just hat. Oh my god I almost died (yes! there's video up for at least awhile)

and if someone did something that original and cute for me I would have blushed and then immediately been theirs for awhile. It's soo cute! I can't help but smile. I decided though that I really enjoy the Angela/Dwight heartbreak stroyline and how they channel their emotions into work- it is so perfect and so true to their character. But Andy was really cute last night.
And I know it would ruin the show but Pam and Jim should break up.
P.S. Ryan is an ass.

Wastin' Away Again in Margartitaville

from Slate V's new series "Interviews 50 Cents" (which I thought was a story about interviewing Curtis Jackson) here is an interview conducted in Key West with a man who is enjoying his life and carpe dieming that shit:

(Apparently Margaritaville is actually Key West: good to know. The Key West Chamber of Commerce should totally use this interview as an ad)
This dude really is living the dream, the Jimmy Buffett, Parrothead dream that so many of my guy friends are pining for* :

Blew out my flip flop, stepped on a pop-top,
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender and soon it will render,
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's my own damn fault.

though the music in the background is Paul Simon's "Slip Slidin' Away" read into that what you may.
Slip Slidin' Away (mp3) buy The Essential Paul Simon.

Foiled Again

it happened once again. My love of wedding announcements is well known (probably not) but I always love looking for gay union, or whatever announcements. And just like with Keith Porteous and Charles Meade I was shocked and disappointed that the marriage of Jake Lipman and Philip Rothman was, in fact, a regular "sanctioned by god" heterosexual one. Jake is the bride and that is actually her given name, which was kind of unique. Jake Allegra. It's pretty and as I've come to realize you have to become incredibly accomplished to get your wedding announcement in the Times (is this sort of like what society pages were concerned with?)
"The bride, 30, will keep her name. She is an executive assistant at the D.E. Shaw group, a hedge fund in New York. She is also the founder and artistic director of the Tongue in Cheek Theater, an Off Off Broadway company in New York; she has also played leading roles in several of its productions. She graduated from Smith and received an Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from the Actors Studio Drama School at the New School."

And her husband Philip "30, is a composer whose works include “Morningside Run,” which had its premiere in 2002 with the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall. He has orchestrated music for film, including pieces for “Hollywoodland” and “The Nanny Diaries” and is a freelance consultant to arts organizations on grant writing and project design. He will be the composer-in-residence with the Green Bay Symphony for the 2008-9 season. He graduated summa cum laude from Rice University and received a Master of Music degree in composition from Juilliard."

Rather impressive. And though I'm sad y'all are straight, congratulations you two!

The Post Where I Try to Predict the Baseball Playoffs

and am proven embarrassingly wrong in a matter of weeks.

So apparently the MLB playoffs started today at noon o'clock pacific time. Who knew? I might have known that information but every time one of those playoff commercials come on I have to immediately turn it off or, barring that I have to close my eyes, stick my fingers in my ears and hum Tommorrow (from Annie) because I'm...not that fond of Dane Cook or that weird kind of frattish slightly stoner whine in his voice. But that DHL commercial with Kenny Lofton is fantastic!
Anyway enough of that. Before the games get any later in the day, currently Colorado is leading 3-1 after a homer by Rowand, I thought I'd try my hand at predicting who will get the chance to fail at defending their title next season (Dodgers win in '08 of course)

NLDSs
Colorado v. Philadelphia: Phillies wins in 5. Two hot teams colliding should give off sparks. But the phillies have the hope of a generation behind them and so they win.
(I was actually quite happy that colorado got the wild card over the Padres because I didn't want to see any California division rivals happy. Arizona and Colorado I've never concerned myself much about- they still seem like "fake" teams that aren't really in the NL West-and yeah I know that doesn't make any sense)
Arizona v.Chicago: Cubs in 4. The first round is way too early in the playoffs for the Cubs to lose.

ALDSs
Anaheim (I'll be long in my grave before I call them Los Angeles anything) Angels v. Boston: Red Sox in 4. The three teams I wish nothing but sadness and 14 innings in the rain for are the Giants, Yankees and Angels. And yes I am jealous that they've been so successful and a little angry that one of my favorite Dodgers growing up had to become their manager.

Cleveland v. Yankees- Indians win in 3. A-Rod tries to carry the team but he can't do it alone. Especially when Jeter and all other clutch heroes of Yankee triumphs past, go 0 for the Series

NLCS: Phillies v. Cubs- Phillies win in 7 . Zambrano has a breakdown in one of the games and somehow the curse of the Cubs makes itself felt- I don't know, the Cubs are up 3 game to 2 when a meteor ruins a part of Wrigley Field so they have to move the deciding games to Philadelphia. (I can't stand to see the Cubs win because they are, along with the Cardinals, the only NL teams that have the same kind of history as the Dodgers)

ALCS: Cleveland v Boston- Cleveland in 6. The Pats have taken away any goodwill I formerly felt towards the fans of Boston. They are now longer "long suffering" so now when they whine it's just annoying. Indians fans however have had very little joy in the 53 years since they last won, besides those heartbreaking teams in the 90s, Albert Belle, and the Major League movies. I say Grady Sizemore does something significant in this series.

World Series: Cleveland v. Philadelphia- I don't know who I want to win here. I think it would be cool if the Phillies lost their 10,000th game in the same season they had an amazing comeback to win the division, that whole team of destiny thing. But Cleveland fans would be happy too. I guess in the end karma bites Cleveland for having a racist mascot and the Phillies win, which hopefully will make their fans less anxious and mean. Chase Utley =World Series MVP.

yeah now of that is happening. I've probably cursed the Phillies to lose in the first round now. Oh well.

Wainy Day Woman

In this episode of Wainy Days (which I couldn't resist posting for soon-to-be obvious reasons) David is seen to be ignorant a misogynist and kind of an asshole. But then, in order to get a girl he undertakes a journey of betterment and one of transformation with remarkable results. (and Michael Ian Black, I've discovered, is a lot funnier when he doesn't open his mouth)

Ah I love it! The ERA Yes pin, I want one. It almost make me like Karen more...but not really. Rashida Jones though is amazing I do love her. She's like the perfect woman. She's so pretty, she's so smart (went to Harvard graduating with degrees in religion and philosophy and has a photographic memory) is basically an heiress (being the daughter of Quincy Jones), she dated Mark Ronson, Tobey Maguire and Jim (among others), she sang on Maroon 5's good album, was on Chappelle Show and she works to help kids resolve conflicts without violence.Hmmm- Actually I don't think I like her anymore; she is way too perfect.
(i'll still miss her on the office though)

Can Chris Crocker Please Go Away Now?

How long ago was the Britney VMA performance and his subsequent rant/appeal? It really seems like months ago, months that have been filled, everywhere one looks with Chris Crocker, on cable news channels, on gossip websites, on videos watched now on You Tube, everywhere in everything. It's "Chris Crocker" overkill, at least to me.
Have we reached the Chris Crocker saturation point yet? My limit is perhaps less than others (and that was reached awhile ago) and maybe it's like when a really indie band you love gets popular you kind of resent the secret being out, but I don't think that's the case. TMZ has video of him looking like a low-rent Edie Sedgwick, playing celebrity on the first trip to the city from the sticks. And now that Chris is so notorious that appeal of being a trapped lil queer ranting and acting as an escape, if he still continues it, will be false and inauthentic stripping away the very appeal of how he was. The question is can he do something else to parlay his appeal past "what are your thoughts on Britney?" (and has there been a chris crocker backlash or has that been hushed by fears that people may be accused of being homo (or trans) phobic? or maybe I'm the only one that feels this way) I don't hate the kid- I just wish he would go away and do something- maybe go to school, for when 6 months from now you're back in Tennessee (twink appeal doesn't last long)

The only thing that gives me comfort is that somewhere a clock is ticking (what minute are we on? 13?)and who, after all, speaks much today of Cory Kennedy or flavors of months past?

(you're still pretty though and your hair looks better- if that makes you feel better)

Duke Sports; Destined to Break My Heart...Again

some links that I have had cluttering my bookmarks all about Duke (dear old)

  • Some really rich old guy got to go to K's Basketball Academy and he wrote about it here. How do I know he's rich and old? Because you have to be at least 35 and it cost $10,000 for the weekend. I guess for a lot of people it is a life time dream, and if you can drop 10k on a weekend go for it, though the things that could be done with that money... It's a lot of money. But it really seems worth it, with the plethora of Duke legends who come in, and apparently K is a lot calmer and nicer than his regular game time demeanor. I really wanna go. First step- get rich. 2nd step get old. Working on them both. I really need to be an Iron Duke.
  • But of course you don't have to be old or rich to interact with The Team. No Duke is paradise where everything is wonderful and the "gods" interact with mere mortals. This Dukie got to watch a pick up game at Wilson with the teams constituted as "Duke recruits Nolan Smith and Taylor King, along with Jon Scheyer and Jay Williams [on one team]. The other team featured Greg Paulus, Lance Thomas, Gerald Henderson, and Chris Carrawell. " That must have been awesome to watch and he has some pretty good observations. I'm getting excited for the season, I must admit. I have so much faith in G-Love ( Gerald Henderson "you can't spell his name without God) and Special Sauce ( Greg Paulus.)
  • As for our football team. ::sigh:: I always have so much faith in them and after we beat Carolina my freshman year I was certain we would win a bowl game. Instead we won like 2 games in the next 3 years. But I still believe that Duke Football is on the verge of greatness, probably two steps away from an ACC championship (hey it happened to Wake, who we should have beaten by 3 scores.) Last year we should have won like at least 5 games, except for our damn kicker ( I hate your Surgan) and some bad luck. And we are continuing to get good recruits our talent level is rising ( though to replace the one and only John Talley is a major feat. I can't believe he didn't get drafted.) But enough about the past and hypothetical futures. It's a new year and I'm predicting a bowl game, though it would really help if one of our best defenders, Michael Tauiliili didn't get arrested in the Cook-Out (mmmm) parking lot. According to the report "[the linebacker,] who was driving his 2000 Ford Expedition, failed to stop after the wreck, despite having caused property damage, and then got into some kind of altercation during which he allegedly pointed a gun at a person and physically assaulted them. Tauiliili had a concealed knife on his person at the time of his arrest and was accused of pointing a BB gun at an individual, according to warrants.
Michael said Monday she didn't have details of the fight Tauiliili allegedly engaged in or details of the injuries he allegedly caused the victim but said that the linebacker's blood alcohol was .12 at the time of his arrest." C'mon Tauilililillilil, you're better than that. And he's suspended indefinitely which is a major loss. But we will get through it and (the) Thaddeus Lewis will lead us to the promised land. Thaddeus Lewis for the Heisman; you heard it hear first. We already have a vote in the polls ( I Love you Spurrier) [UPDATE: If you wanna see some serious ownage about this, skim this post but read the comments: Simply Brilliant] . Soon we will have more.
  • Of course it would help our entire athletic department if we had a change of leadership. Instead of Firing Joe Alleva as they should have, Duke rewarded him with a contract extension. It's ridiculous and he's worthless and living off the surplus and legacy of the Tom Butters era. And it is a rumour that I heard from my friend, but he was in a position to know, that Steve Spurrier before he took the South Carolina job wanted to come back to Duke but Alleva didn't return the phone call. Fucking unacceptable, damn your loyalty I want a major title! That is all.

Oh and this isn't about Duke but as so many people say Duke Basketball is like the Yankees I'll let that be the link. Anyway Derek Jeter has herpes! Herpes! And a report is stating that he gave it to Jessica Alba. It may not be true but I choose to believe it. I really hate him even more know. Damn Yankees, ruining America and our natural resources. I mean Jeter has been linked to like everyone in Hollywood and everyone sleeps with everyone. Derek Jeter is like a plague rat. And disgusting and I hate him. He must be stopped.

Yeah, I'm going to hell

<-- (not Sam Alexis Woods)

Speaking of babies Tiger and Elin have released a nice set of family pictures on Tiger's website and the baby is (a couple of weeks old/gonna be rich/named Sam/already balding/looking just like dad) stunnin. Yeah, that'll do it. I don't know. I'm not saying the kid is not going to be gorgeous, god knows she has the genes, it's just that I think right now... she's going through an akward phase. And maybe no babies really look cute until they open their eyes; that's what I'm guessing.Either way I apologize to the Woodses who I actually like and can buy and sell my soul. And there's no way Sam Alexis could be considered ugly, or even not cute, when you think about who are procreating (see immediately preceding post)- those Grace kids are so the odds on favorite to win this next year. I'm Not Even Mad, I'm Impressed

I think that the feminist and all the women who worked and strove so hard for equality between the sexes would be incredibly proud today. A woman in Tacoma was arrested for a DUI with a b.a.c. of .50(!!!) tied for the highest b.a.c , which is more than six times the legal limit. That women is a champ! No one has to tell me how dangerous and irresponsible drinking and driving is, it's horrible and she should be punished, but I have to admit if I needed a night of incredible blackoutness, she would be high on my speed dial.

It's at times like this when only one thing comes to mind: Girl Power!!!
Hahahah; sorry. Think I'm excited about the reunion? Anyway if you wanna figure out your own b.a.c (it is the weekend after all-though I doubt you'll be by a computer) here's a handy little link.

Real World: Sydney

The new season of the Real World is to premiere sometime this fall and I have to say I'm not looking forward to it. It seems to be more of the same thing: lots of drinking, sex and yelling, this time in Sydney. I'm actually old enough to remember watching the 2nd season of the Real World when it was originally broadcast and in terms of social relevance and importance the show has definitely been going steadily downhill since Season 3 in San Francisco (this is a pretty common critique.) It's now just purely mindless television that has to give teenagers (i'm sounding like such an old prude) horrible conceptions of the world and cause them to put appearing on the Real World ( or its endless Challenge series-es) as a major life goal.
The Wikipedia site has many of the cast members MySpace pages and if there is any type of real discussion on this show I will be shocked. Highlights from their pages include:

Isaac (who originally was to appear on the Real World Denver but was under house arrest at the time) whose general interest include " drinking dome anal and beer" and would like to meet "skanky sluty (sp) whore sluts."

Kelly, a 20 year old from UT-Austin

Cohutta Lee, a 23 year old (presumable good ol' boy) from Blue Ridge Georgia

Dunbar Finn who goes to Ole Miss, has a girlfriend and has served in Iraq (presumably another good ol' boy)

Trisha Cummings (ha ha), a blonde model type from Fresno

and last but not least, as I'm sure she'll be heavily featured, Shauvon, a bisexual 24 year old from "Princess Wonderland California, with dyed blonde hair, breast implants, and wallpaper that consists of just her picture.

I just wonder where the black guy and the gay guy are.
I can't lie, I'll still watch hoping for the day when this happens. God Bless Dave Chappelle, R.I.P.
