Fanboys Rejoice!

I've always been amused by that phrase "fanboys"
Anyway Star Wars fanboys do have a reason to get excited today
From variety

Another "Star Wars" tale is on its way to the bigscreen, but it won't be distributed by Fox.

Lucasfilm has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a 3-D toon that will bow in theaters this August before moving to the smallscreen in the fall. The Aug. 15 feature will set the stage for the spinoff skein, which will bow on Cartoon Network, followed by airings on TNT. International release dates for the feature and TV series are still being set.

Multiplatform project is an expansion of the earlier "Clone Wars" microseries that aired on Cartoon Network. However, Fox's homevid arm released those episodes on DVD, just as it has distributed every "Star Wars" theatrical release since 1977.

Lucasfilm said Warner Bros.' cable and theatrical resources made it an especially good fit for the project. "We're trying to do something unprecedented -- marrying TV series and theatrical release," a rep said.

Under this deal, Warner will release the film and TV skein on DVD.

Warner execs eagerly tracked the project throughout the development process, and decided to give the property a theatrical launch after seeing footage.

"I don't know anyone who wouldn't want it," said Stuart Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Turner Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media, who said a theatrical launch "has always been contemplated as part of the process."

The "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" movie is expected to run around 100 minutes and pick up between episode II and III. Anakin Skywalker is not yet Darth Vader. The story will then continue in 30-minute smallscreen installments.

George Lucas, who has revisited the property and time again over the decades, said he mounted this new spinoff because he "felt there were a lot more 'Star Wars' stories left to tell." He said he wanted to tell them through animation, pushing the technology forward at the same time.

Lucas serves as exec producer on the project, which will primarily employ voice actors. The only original actors returning are Anthony Daniels as C3PO and Matthew Wood as General Grievous and the battledroids.

I wonder if I'm a big enough nerd to care about this...kinda..yeah. Okay if you're like me here is the official site at StarWars.com

and here's a bootleg of the trailer (which was released as a surprise at Celebrtation IV)

( if viewing slight askew isn't your thing here's the more proper version)

And to prove I'm not so secretly a nerd, just like I remembered there was a traditional animation of I guess different Clone Wars battles on the Cartoon Network.

Quantum of Teasing

Here's the teaser poster for the new James Bond film, Bond 22 "Quantum of Solace." And just from this you can tell Daniel Craig is wearing a tux but is by no means stuffy. That and he has a really big gun. (You know what they say about guys with long shadow, don't you? They're amaaazing to stand next to on ultra bright days.)

And while we're kind of on the subject I must admit my favorite teaser poster for a highly anticipated film that incorporated a shadow has to be this one for Episode I: The Phantom Menace. I just thought it was a simple yet beautiful bit of foreshadowing.

Too bad the movie was such a let down. Here's hoping "Quantum" doesn't suffer the same fate.

Duke-Carolina: It’s Kind Of Like This

It’s Carolina Day the first of the two most important scheduled days of a Dukie’s year, it's almost a sacred day consecrated with the hate of generations so you have to excuse me for being a little (obsessed) focused.

I Never Thought To Think Of This Before

but now that you mention it: Can a Jedi Light Saber Cut through Superman?
good thing Yahoo! Answers-Malaysia has an answer:

Short answer: No.

PLASMA
A Jedi lightsaber is plasma contained in a magnetic field. Plasma is basically the form of matter which stars are made of. Pre-Crisis Superman has flown through the heart of a star without being harmed. Therefore, he is immune to plasma.

Post-Crisis Superman was not as invulnerable, e.g. a nuclear explosion would weaken him. Assuming a lightsaber contains power similar to a nuclear explosion, it could similarly disrupt his invulnerability during impact. See FORCE OF IMPACT below.

RED LIGHTSABERS
Superman receives his power from the radiation of our yellow sun, and is weakened when exposed to radiation from a red sun. It is possible that a sith lightsaber, being red, might have similar properties.

Even so, Superboy Prime was defeated after being plunged through Krypton's red sun - which weakened him, but did not destroy him. Therefore, a red lightsaber which hypothetically had the same properties as a red star should have a similar effect, i.e. it would injure him, but not "cut" him, much less cut through him.

FORCE OF IMPACT
If Superman were rendered vulnerable by a lightsaber, it would likely create a momentary weakness in that spot, allowing the physical impact to cause damage. However, lightsaber blades, being made of plasma, presumably have a very small mass. Therefore, the force of the impact would be negligible.

In short, hitting Superman with a red lightsaber is like hitting a normal human with a wet noodle.

(the respondent's source)
Though there is some disagree on this point:
  • This question is interesting, I do not think a lightsaber will be able to cut though Superman. Then again I could be wrong. I like what the first guy said, it had something to do with lasers or whatever it is that they are made out of. That stuff probably couldn't cut though the man of steel. As for Jedi Mind tricks, I doubt Superman is weak minded, so that is probably a no. They will not work on him.
  • Lightsaber CANNOT cut through Superman. Most people think that lightsabers that is powered up by Kryptonite could cut Superman. The truth is they don't know that lightsabers were powered by crystals, while Kryptonite is a kind of metal.(Even Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster made a comic book called."The K-metal from Krypton") Both magic and kryptonite are not a guaranteed win. That's like saying anyone with blues music can beat the Hulk since it will relax him.
  • Superman's invulnerability is well established, and I know of comic book stories where he survives a nuclear bomb, and flies through the heart of a star; a lightsaber seems underwhelming in comparison. A lightsaber beam would have as much effect on Superman as a beam from a flashlight would have on you or I.
  • Yes a lightsaber can cut through superman. Superman was impervious to earth weapons but a lightsaber was not created on earth so i will say that it can cut him. But if we want to get all technical i dont think this question could have an answer as neither are from the same universe. Each of the characters universes have their own rules and physics. Also an important aspect would be the location of this fight. Superman got his powers from the yellow sun so if they are some place where there is no sun then superman would just be a regular dude and the jedi would have no problem cuttin' him down.
  • I would say yes, under the following conditions:
    • 1) Superman has been weakened somehow - several planets in the SWG orbit red suns, for example.
    • 2) If the lightsaber being used mimics the power of a red sun on Supes (only an evil Sith would try and cut Superman, and they all use red lightsabers, right?)
    • 3) If the wielder of the saber was using Force powers to augment the attack, AND SWG Force powers were close enough in property to DCU "magic" to effect Superman in the same way.
    • 4) If Superman stood still for a very, very long time, and the saber wielder was very patient.
    • Otherwise, I'm guessing it would only superficially wound him, though it would do so more than any normal Earth weapon could
  • a light saber is not a laser...everybody knows that... it all depends on what kind of light waves are coming out of the the light saber. if the light waveforms are similar propertiesto a white sun, it would only make superman stronger, but if its similar to the red sun, it would definitely kill him, because then it would be like kryptonite
  • Can a lightsaber cut through superman? Only under special circumstances. From what I know about Supe's invulnerability is that it's like a close "forcefield" around him. It gets weakened when exposed to kryptonite, denied energy from Earth's yellow sun for an extended amount of time, and I believe it can also be shut down by magic (Zatana can totally kick his *** ;D ). Lightsabers I believe can be stopped by magnetic forcefields - like the kind that contains the plasma of other lightsabers. If supes has a "forcefield" around him, the lightsaber would not cut him. If you weakened that force field, it probably would, but it would be really difficult. Superman would be able to completely be able to fight back and slap the jedi or sith around like a red-headed step child. But the Jedi would have other abilities at his disposal to help him cut superman. If you did trick out a lightsaber with red sun plasma, then Superman would probably be in for a moment of hurt...and feeling the kryptonite sickness. Wether or not a sith lightsaber is red sun plasma is debatable. You could probably build one though. Also superman would be very busy trying to beat the jedi down. Even weakened, he's no pushover. It would come down to who acted first. Jedi can see the future, so would have a good shot at being prepared for supes with knowledge and reflexes. Superman would also be susceptible to force powers like the jedi mind trick and telekinetic force powers. Jedi can also dampen energy attacks and stop blaster fire (possibly like his eye beams). Superman does have a strong will, so it would take someone who was really good with mind powers(like yoda or palpatine) to do it. It would take a highly trained and/ or specialized jedi to fight Superman without preparing for it in any case. If Superman were up against several jedi, then you would have real shot of cutting him with a lightsaber. So, can a Jedi lightsaber cut through Superman? Possible, but not likely.

My conclusion? There are a lot of people at there who have waaay more time on their hands than me

Darth Redubbed

or The Vader Sessions featuring James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader from A New Hope...except his voice is from his other films including Field of Dreams and The Great White Hope (those are the only ones I could place straightaway)

Something that really amused me about this video, on its youtube page its tags include
"hillarious" "genius" "knightley" "spiderman" "nirvana": honesty and humility, much?

But speaking of genius, and because we're on the subject of redubbing, I'm reminded of these overdubbed "shred" videos created by a Finn called StSanders. From an article about it

In the clips we see axe heroes performing the fret-wanking solos that were a staple of 80s hard rock arena shows. There's Slash, of course, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Carlos Santana and more.

The look of supreme concentration and smug gratification on the faces of these axe-masters is unmistakable. But as their fingers flicker across the fretboards something quite wrong is happening. As they're mugging at their adoring audience it sounds like they're carelessly hitting random notes, playing through a cheap amp, in a tiled bathroom. But the look on Joe's and Stevie's and Eddie's faces is beautiful and oblivious.

The inspiration came when StSanders caught a Steve Vai clip on mute, and thought that it looked "kinda funny". He set about rerecording the guitar parts himself so that they sound perfectly inept. Honestly, it is actually hilarious.

It really is, especially if you know the song in its original version. Like here is Metallica's One "overdubbed"

or Angus Young from AC/DC doing Thunderstruck

These amuse me probably too much, I don't know why. Anyway if you want to see more here is StSanders' YouTube page

[And oh snap! StSanders did his own Star Wars Redo with James Earl Jones' voice from Coming To America

Ahhaaaa!]

(p.s. I was originally going to title this post Dub Rebels, because it sounds sort of cool but it seems there's a band with the same name and...so much for my creativity. Hmm; how about Redub Rebels?)

Ewan McGregor To "Play" Gay Again

And somehow it's newsworthy; maybe it's the fact that Jim Carrey is his love interest. meh, either way.

I Love Philip Morris (is not as I thought about a smoker and the cigarette company)

Ewan McGregor will play the romantic lead opposite Jim Carrey in "I Love You Phillip Morris," a dark comedy that marks the directing debut of "Bad Santa" scribes Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar will produce with Far Shariat. Luc Besson's EuropaCorp is fully financing, and Besson is exec producer.

Carrey signed earlier in the fall to star in the fact-based tale as Steven Russell, a married father whose conman ways introduced him to the Texas prison system. There, he fell in love with cellmate Phillip Morris.

His love for Morris motivated his escape from prisons four times, once by using a green pen and bucket of water to change his prison outfit into what appeared to be surgical scrubs, another time by faking his death from AIDS and signing his own death certificate. Morris eventually got out, but Russell's escapades got him a 144-year sentence.

Sounds like it could be...something
But Ewan, I mean is he really straight? Because he plays gay so well

from Velvet Goldmine (a movie that was so homoerotic and sexy and also the main reason I think Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a member of the Queer Kids Club*)

and from that totally homoerotic saga the Star Wars prequels- read the subtext

Ewan McGregor: Elijah Wood gay. And still really hot.

The Star Wars Holiday Special!

Over the years I had heard so much about the Star Wars Holiday Special and about how it was just so awful that it was locked away someplace and so in my mind a shallow mythology began to form.
So I must admit that I was shocked to find it so easily online (I hadn't really ever cared enough to search before) but it is just as bad as anything you may have heard. But awfulness does of course make it funny in a bad way. It is still so much better than Episode I.Plus I do really like the idea of a Love Day. Anyway here is a mid day movie break brought to you by the horribleness of the 70s; The Star Wars Holiday Special

Happy Love Day everyone~
