Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?

written by Carole King & Gerry Goffin

Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic of your sighs
Will you still love me tomorrow

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun

I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow

What is Love? A MixTape Answer

In case you didn’t realize it there are a mountain range worth of songs that mention love so I’ve rethought my valentine’s day playlist plan.

So here’s Part 1 which answers the immortal question What is Love?

It's a sleight of hand, a white soul band
The heart attacks I'm convinced I have
Every morning upon waking.
To you I'm a symbol or a monument
Your rite of passage to fulfillment
But I'm not yours for the taking

But you are what you love
And not what loves you back
So I guess that's why you keep calling me back

I'm fraudulent, a thief at best
A coward who paints a bullshit canvas
Things that will never happen to me
But at arms length, it's Tim who said
I'm good at it, I've mastered it
Avoiding, avoiding everything

But you are what you love, Tim
And not what loves you back
And I'm in love with illusions
So saw me in half
I'm in love with tricks
So pull another
rabbit out your hat

Amy Winehouse Cleans Up Nice

relatively speaking, of course.
here she is performing "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab" at the Grammy's on Sunday, in case you missed it, as I did. And though those songs maybe the most autobiographically appropriate songs ever performed on an awards show and it could have been a disaster she pulls them off spectacularly and looked good and healthy doing it.

Even after all her crackheadedness she still has such an amazing amazing vote

F**k Me Pumps

That post from earlier reminded me of this song, Fuck Me Pumps by Amy Winehouse. And just to remind you that Amy wasn’t always a cracked out trainwreck here’s a picture of her in better days

Either way this is such a good song, maybe better for a Friday night than a Monday, but whatevs

When you walk in the bar,
And you're dressed like a star,
Rockin' your eff me pumps.

And the man notice you,
With your Gucci bag crew,
Can't tell who he's lookin' to.

Cause you all look the same,
Everyone knows your name,
And that's you whole claim to fame.

Never miss a night,
Cause your dreaming life,
Is to be a footballers wife.

You don't like players,
That's what you say-a (sayin'),
But you really wouldn't mind a millionaire.

You don't like ballers,
They don't do nothing for ya,
But you'd love a rich man six foot two or taller.

You're more than a fan,
Lookin' for a man,
But you end up with one night stands.

He could be your whole life,
If you got past one night,
But that part never goes right.

In the morning you're vexed.
He's onto the next.
And you didn't even get no taste.

Don't be too upset,
If they call you a skank,
Cause like the news everyday you get press.

You don't like players,
That's what you say-a (sayin'),
But you really wouldn't mind a millionaire.

Or them big ballers,
Don't do nothing for ya.
But you'd love a rich man six foot two or taller,

You can't sit down right,
Cause you jeans are too tight,
And your lucky its ladies night.

With your big empty purse,
Every week it gets worse,
At least your breasts cost more than hers.

So you did Miami,
Cause you got there for free,
But somehow you missed the plane.

You did too much E,
Met somebody,
And spent the night getting caned.

Without girls like you,
There'd be no fun,
We'd go to the club and not see anyone.

Without girls like you,
There's no nightlife,
All those men just go home to their wives.

Don't be mad at me,
Cause you're pushing thirty,
And your old tricks no longer work.

You should have known from the job,
That you always get dumped,
So dust off your fuck me pumps.

I'm not Sure if I Agree

this is pretty old news but I've meant to write on it
from CNN the headline Ryan Adams has Meltdown at concert:
Ryan Adams pitched another fit for a Minneapolis audience, a few years after his last local meltdown. Throughout a show Thursday night, the 32-year-old singer-guitarist complained about the sound monitors onstage at the State Theatre. At one point, he moved two monitors, his microphone and his guitar pedals.

After 70 minutes he'd had enough. Adams announced "the last song," played it and didn't return for an encore. Many fans stood and booed.

It must have been a slow news day. He moved his microphone and guitar pedals. My word; think of the children. Isn't that the roadies job to make sure everything is where the star wants it?

I don't know if I would call a 70 minute show a "meltdown" I've been to a few concerts that barely touched 45 minutes. And I've never understood the modern point of an encore. I assume when the tradition started that it was a genuine and touching moment between musician and fans where the musician would acknowledge the love by coming back out. But now, now that every show has an encore where it is expected and booed if it doesn't happen, seems so phony to me. The whole thing should be called "a bathroom break where, the artists ego and feelings are stroked by the applause and the audience feels like they are connecting with the band enough to bring them back on stage to sing a hit or two that they've saved for this 'unexpected' encore." I've started to only clap for an encore if that is what is most important to me at that moment. And if the above mentioned show was so horrible and meltdownish why would the crowd want him to come back out? It's not like he walked out in the middle of the song- he did announce it would be his last song and it was. He should be admired for his integrity.

There are certain shows where you go partly because you want to be a part of what could go wrong, and with Ryan Adams' past trend of sometime erratic behavior that's kind of what you sign on for. It's like going to a Guns n Roses show back in the day and not expecting Axl to throw a fit, or going to an Amy Winehouse show and expecting her not to be blitzed. At a Velvet Revolver show a few years back the fact that the band came on like a full two hours after the opener made it more exciting- more "rock n roll."
But if you did go to the show and are still upset about Archive.org has an amazing live music search feature where you can find a ton of Ryan Adams' concerts- it's pretty amazing. And if you still fell bad Minnesota, just realize he still likes you all more than Tennessee.

Your Stuck in my Head Song of the Day

Today's Stuck In My Head Song of the Day is The Zuton's Valerie. I hadn't really thought of this song for a while but then on KCRW tonight they played a cover version performed by who I think was Amy Winehouse, though I am not sure. But anyway its a pretty sweet song about love and stuff (which I think about 73% of all songs are.) I love the band and the song and so you will too. So here's both Amy's version (sober and in her normal state)

and the Zutons.

Hope you enjoy

Your Stuck in my Head Song of the Day

Today was a tough day for this post, I had two amazing, like truly amazing songs stuck in my head all day. They are really different songs but I kind of realized they are both so good that the odds are high both would still be stuck in my head tomorrow, so I decided to flip a coin to see who I would profile tonight. SO tonight's stuck in my head song of the day is Amy Winehouse's
"You Know I'm No Good."
I've had this song in my head since I woke up when I was thinking about Hubby's e-mail and formulating my response and wondering if I'm in love with her and wondering if I've ever actually been in love and then thinking about all my failings and if maybe I have been in love I probably screwed it up (breath). But the main chorus (I think I like that word play) of
"I cheated myself
Like I knew I would
I told ya, I was trouble
You know that I'm no good"
are some of those sentiments that I'm sure all of us think about at times when we feel like we're not living up to an ideal of ourselves. Plus I love her boozin' and constant references to it. Though she could act like she cares, just a little. Like my partner in LME said today:
Everlyn: i love amy winehouse

so much
esp since i grew up on oldies
me: except for her skankness
Everlyn: yea, she's pretty gross looking
some people press mute when they watch music videos
here i'd close my eyes
me: and she cancelled some concerts claiming exhaustion so hse could go out pubbing
for like 4 straight nights
Everlyn: well, there's always some tradeoff
and as long as i can hear her music without seeing her, im fine
me: good
Everlyn: although i would like to see her in concert. maybe
far away.
Anyway here it is and I dare you to try to get the chorus out of your head.
