It's Not Easy Being Green

When I was on College Humor yesterday, marveling at the creativity and twisted sense of humor of my generation I saw this video of Kermit (the Frog) and his reaction to the infamous 2 girls 1 cup

of course I found it shocking and funny but also I thought "Poor Kermit" because I remembered a similar parody of Kermit singing "Hurt." Now with the Nine Inch Nails' version* I get really depressed, the Johnny Cash version leaves me feeling sad and quite sorry for him, but with Kermit's version I feel sorry for us all

And I wouldn't doubt that there are hundreds of other similar parodies lurking in the alley of the internet. It's all so much I was tempted for about half of a second to post this Chris "14:58" Crocker parody. But that ship has sailed (and hopefully sunk.)
I'm sure Jim Henson must be spinning in his grave (assuming of course that there's a hand up his rear and twisting) but then I remembered this article by Virgina Heffernan about how Sesame Street was never that innocent.
From the article

According to an earnest warning on Volumes 1 and 2, “Sesame Street: Old School” is adults-only: “These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups

Man, was that scene rough. The masonry on the dingy brownstone at 123 Sesame Street, where the closeted Ernie and Bert shared a dismal basement apartment, was deteriorating. Cookie Monster was on a fast track to diabetes. Oscar’s depression was untreated. Prozacky Elmo didn’t exist.

Which brought Parente to a feature of “Sesame Street” that had not been reconstructed: the chronically mood-disordered Oscar the Grouch. On the first episode, Oscar seems irredeemably miserable — hypersensitive, sarcastic, misanthropic. (Bert, too, is described as grouchy; none of the characters, in fact, is especially sunshiney except maybe Ernie, who also seems slow.) “We might not be able to create a character like Oscar now,” she said.

Snuffleupagus is visible only to Big Bird; since 1985, all the characters can see him, as Big Bird’s old protestations that he was not hallucinating came to seem a little creepy, not to mention somewhat strained. As for Cookie Monster, he can be seen in the old-school episodes in his former inglorious incarnation: a blue, googly-eyed cookievore with a signature gobble (“om nom nom nom”). Originally designed by Jim Henson for use in commercials for General Foods International and Frito-Lay, Cookie Monster was never a righteous figure.

Damn, they were all screwed up, not to mention Miss Piggy must have had horrible self esteem, always chasing a man who doesn't want her (I kinda think Kermit was gay- here are the lyrics to It's Not Easy Being Green; look closer.) and that Animal was based upon a rock star who died young because of a drug overdose. And people wondered why Generation X was so "whatever."
And of course all of this reminded me of that great Dave Chappelle stand up bit from Killing Them Softly

*I really feel like my first exposure to that sing was while playing Mario 64 and listening to Howard Stern as he was, in the same manner of Bruce Springsteen's Secret Garden interspersed with dialogue from Jerry Maguire, was attempting to splice dialogue from the movie Private Parts and the miscarriage scene into Hurt. And I wonder why I'm so screwy...

The WGA Strike: Day 9 of...

here's a fun little slideshow about food given by the celebrities to the strikers.

"Voices of Uncertainty"
From United Hollywood :"A tribute to the heroes of the AMPTP, who continue to soldier on in the face of almost unimaginable financial confusion. "

I think the people I feel the worst for are the people who work for this shows that are going to get laid off.
Well those workers and our society as a whole because without scripted television the Chris Crocker reality show is even more of a reality and people may actually watch it out of boredom ( i implore you people read a book! there are thousands of buildings all over the country where you can borrow any book you want, for free! or if you're opposed to the written word sign up for netflix or something, please) To be honest I had forgotten how happy I was not thinking or hearing about him. Then for some reason I watched this. i immediately regretted that decision. If you want though...Y'know he really seems like a long time ago, like summer. Here's to old news and 14:57

Regarding the Events of Today

So today somehow I've had just around 7,000 new hits and I have no idea why at the moment. I thought maybe that it was my Chris Crocker Backlash post and maybe I was at the vanguard of a movement then I guessed maybe the one regarding The Mystery of Steve Fossett may have begun an urban legend (my ego is huuge)
And though a part of me wants to sing this

(p.s. does anyone know where I can get the book, Penny's Guide to Teen-Age Charm and Popularity, that the dialogue of this song, Popular came from?
my incredible insecurity makes me think that (for some reason) it's a joke and the sudden uptick is a result of a mocking laugh (the fact that I mi spelled the word "here" as "hear" still haunts me) that of course this can't last and that "They're All Going to Laugh At You" and really this is the plan, except for the telekinetic fiery holocaust part

Oh well qué será, será. I am pretty excited, though, about studying google analytics tomorrow and discovering whatever desire it is that drove this traffic; I'm more than open to pandering.

Can Chris Crocker Please Go Away Now?

How long ago was the Britney VMA performance and his subsequent rant/appeal? It really seems like months ago, months that have been filled, everywhere one looks with Chris Crocker, on cable news channels, on gossip websites, on videos watched now on You Tube, everywhere in everything. It's "Chris Crocker" overkill, at least to me.
Have we reached the Chris Crocker saturation point yet? My limit is perhaps less than others (and that was reached awhile ago) and maybe it's like when a really indie band you love gets popular you kind of resent the secret being out, but I don't think that's the case. TMZ has video of him looking like a low-rent Edie Sedgwick, playing celebrity on the first trip to the city from the sticks. And now that Chris is so notorious that appeal of being a trapped lil queer ranting and acting as an escape, if he still continues it, will be false and inauthentic stripping away the very appeal of how he was. The question is can he do something else to parlay his appeal past "what are your thoughts on Britney?" (and has there been a chris crocker backlash or has that been hushed by fears that people may be accused of being homo (or trans) phobic? or maybe I'm the only one that feels this way) I don't hate the kid- I just wish he would go away and do something- maybe go to school, for when 6 months from now you're back in Tennessee (twink appeal doesn't last long)

The only thing that gives me comfort is that somewhere a clock is ticking (what minute are we on? 13?)and who, after all, speaks much today of Cory Kennedy or flavors of months past?

(you're still pretty though and your hair looks better- if that makes you feel better)

Your Stuck in my Head Song(s) of the Day

Today was one of those days when I had a couple of songs in my head and so I cou;dn't decide and didn't think it would be fair to just pick one- because honestly there is always the chance I would never put the other into this spot. I had Shores of California by the Dresden Dolls and Scream for More by Kate Ryan basically alternating in my head all day, one song about screaming for more (I'll assume in the throes of passion) and the other referencing masturbation in the midwest ( a strange medley I know.)

Ah this video reminds me of a summer wasted and makes me kind of sad but I don't care. I love Amanda Palmer, I love the Dresden Dolls and I love this, the video for (one of) Your Stuck in My Head Song(s) of the Day- Shores of California

The Dresden Dolls- Shores of California (mp3)

And I would love to go out tonight to go out and try to get someone to dance (just like any girl would really want) but it's gray and rainy and I don't feel up to it, so I'll probably just have a dance party where I am. It most likely won't be anything like Chris Crocker (or someone who looks exactly like him) dancing to Akon in his underwear, but Your (other) Stuck in My Head Song of the day "Scream for More" by Kate Ryan will figure prominently

Kate Ryan- Scream for More (mp3)

Don't hide your feelings, let's go dreaming
Have no fear 'cause my heart will scream for more

Done and done.
As for y'all? Have a good weekend everyone (oh and be sure to look around the site- there are minutes [minutes!] of entertainment in the last 450+ post)

Let's Call it TransTastic Thursday

and since it is Transtastic Thursday I decided to try this. ( A quick side bar: Once again looking at this video I can't honestly believe Chris Crocker is a top. If he is I would love to see who he's topping. Bless his leopard skinned heart)

Anyway I've been thinking a lot about having a post about Jimmy Santiago Baca and his Transvestite Poems but I didn't actually know when I would fit it in. But seeing how today is TMI Thursday and I have nothing really good for TMI tonight (seriously I know it's a "must read" but tonight's is going to really suck unless I get very inspired/drunk, so you can skip it) I decided to post it today. From an outsider perspective it actually has a lot of the emotions and desires and thoughts that I'm sure many (other) transgendered people feel. I don't know how I stumbled upon it anymore, but that isn't really important
I tried to find the text of these poems somewhere online but I couldn't so I tried to transcribe them as best as I could- the line breaks/ capitalization and punctuation are all mine. (but if you do know where I could find a more accurate text, or know of a place where I screwed up in transcription, please let me know- I won't be too upset, besides maybe at my incompetence and the fact I spent like an hour doing this for nothing) Either way I hope you enjoy them:

Transvestite Poem #1
I come out of the South
from the Darkness
Where Death Ferments
seeping from limbs
moistening what is Hard and Cold and
Alone at Night
I Say “I come from the South”
Out of the Darkness
like A Dream
a Storm beneath my Flesh
Two Faces
Two Bodies
A Hybrid Flower.
of Honey and Poison.
Half Moon Half Sun
Intoxicated on Fragrances
Stinking of Sweat
Smooth and Rough
Bearded and Hairless
with Penis and Vagina
Two Mouths Constantly Quarreling
Two Tongues
Twenty Fingers, Twenty Toes
In constant Conflict
There are Two of us
That were Blurred at birth
By some cruel
god.
always Alone.
Out of the Dark
like an extinct animal I appear.
My Body a cave I look
Out from.
With red eyes, sharp teeth.
I can easily kill. As surrender
I can Kiss or Bite
I can Smile or Snarl
Because I am made of Two!
I am opposite and similar
I am a Field of yellow flowers that I saw as a child
and I am a field of Cactus I now stumble through

Jimmy Santiago Baca- Transvestite Poem #1 (mp3)

Transvestite Poem #2
You do not understand
How much Pain
I am in.
You see, Memories of myself
As a Boy
Confused by being so Different
than other Boys
That Shame
Gutted Me
Created in Me a Dark Hole where
Each day I go to and Die in.
While other childrens’ lives were played in Parks
I crouched behind the headstone in the cemetery
And I used to weep my shame.
And while other boys watched TV or played ball
hung out on couches
I was drawn to dance on the Broken alley crates
Where lecherous Men and Women seduced me
And I survived my Two-Sexed.
Divined disease.
Deceiving Friends and drug Fiends,
Lying in bed with an Innocent lover
My sheets become Vile Plumage where I gorge on his Love
with vultured Hunger.
Aesthetic Pilgrim
whose shrine is the male Body.
Male Sighing. I love so much after he cums.
Male gripping Me
Male pounding Me
Male kisses- Rough, Horrible
Filled with Pain
Pain. Pleasure of Men’s Passion
as they Pillage Me
Open Me
Adore Me
Honor Me
Devour Me,
In their Hatred and their Love!
And then the dream is over.
It’s Gone!
And seeing my face stubbled, Ugly lookin’ again
In the mirror
Studying with Contempt My manly features
As if from a Grave that I just woke Up from.
Yearnin’ for the night to come,
when I’ll sing sweetly to Charm the Men’s
Lewd Attention and lure the Cobra from the Basket
to my Music.
Not the reflection in the Mirror this morning are they going to see.
Not Me plucking these eyes
nor the wrinkles on My face
but opening My compact, mascara
pulling out My eyeliners
My tweezers
The Mirror will begin to Open and talk to Me.
Like a Dark Curtain for an Actress suddenly to appear.
I transform into a Young, Sensuous Woman,
My lemony breasts of both dizzying Delight
Yes obsessed with
Flesh
With My Lust
With My Body
With the curved Wings
Of My Thighs
My Hips
My Legs
As floating across Their Hearts like Quetzal birds
in the Jungle,
filled with voodoo omens of sexual Fulfillment.
Thrones and Furs is what I Desire.
Down filled Beds and Comforters
Popular
Sought after
that even Flamenco guitarists wail their lust for Me.
Walking under the Peach trees through the flower Gardens
I forget the backseat cars as a sweaty whore
Turning tricks for American service mens’ twenty-dollar bills.
I open My legs to the Moon
Rings on each of My fingers
“Call Me you’re witch
as I kiss you as I strip My clothes off.
Make this night for Me,
Please!
For You
Please!
As if We were both Falling
Falling into a World Filled with happiness
for just That long
And not Us as we are
looking for Love
For a Man to Love Me
to Love You
to Love Me
Just This Night
For me
For You
As if we were both
Falling.

Jimmy Santiago Baca- Transvestite Poem # 2 (mp3)

Yeah I can relate. Ok just for you all I'll try to think of something worthy for TMI (and I'll also try to come up with a Stuck in My Head song- I suck today.) If not I may slack off and post something from the "early days" of this here blog. We'll see how everything works out.

The Chris Crocker Show

It's his world- we're just swimming around in the wreckage of it.

(and yes I think I can finally admit I'm a little obsessed with the kid- I can't help it)

TMZ has reported that a production company has signed Chris Crocker to a deal to develop a reality show around his life in that small southern town (apparently it's in Tennessee) I don't know how I feel about this just because I'm not sure if people will be able to put up with him for half an hour at a time but also in that Stranger article "Escape From Real Bitch Island" it states the double edged sword that such a show could bring

"One of the ideas that Meehan, the producer, has is to get the permission of Chris's grandparents to shoot a reality show in their house. The irony of this actually happening, of course, would be that Chris makes it onto television but doesn't get to leave Real Bitch Island. He's worried about this, worried that his appeal is contingent on the way he clashes with his current location, and on the "comedy gold mine" that is his family. But if a reality TV show were to happen, he told me, he'd happily do a year of Real Bitch Island reality and then try to parlay it—finally—into a ticket off."

Well if it does finally get him out of that town good for him. I just don't know if, as Defamer points out, the reality tv company 44 Blue, developers of such groundbreaking and rating giants as Assume the Position, Mega Movers, Los Ninos en Su Casa or The Christopher Lowell Show (hmm I actually have heard of a lot of those-though I don't think I've watched, or enjoyed) can actually make it compelling, or if anyone will actually be able to see it, or if it will be on one of those purely "reality tv" channels. Because unlike their other shows I don't see this fitting in on TLC, A&E or the History Channel.
But either way Chris I wish you good luck, and if worse comes to worse I really like that picture above-you still make a pretty girl, and are definitely prettier than Oscar de la Hoya

(viax-17 Online, through Deadspin)
Or maybe that should be Oscar de la Ho. (zing!)
Yeah I'm sure he won't be seeing these pictures again if he keeps on boxing... [UPDATE: and yeah the pictures are fake, though it was fun while it lasted.]

Your Stuck in my Head Song of the Day

Today's been kind of a weird day and as usual my emotions have been all over the place and right now I'm hating my family and am rather sad yada yada bitch yada whine (and now in actual shocking news Chris Crocker is a top. Wow that surprised me a lot; who knew?) All in all I wish it were Friday.

But on with the show and today this song has been in my head since about the time I woke up this morning. It is from Andrew Bird and the name of the song is Sovay. The wordplay in this song is pretty sweet and very literate so I am equal parts impressed and jealous. I don't know actually what the song is about, but if I were to venture a guess just based on the lyrics it seems to be an anti-war anthem, with some of the imagery referencing that famous bombing scene in Apocalypse Now, though Sovay originally meant a folk ballad about a young woman who dresses as a highwaymen to test her lover, so who knows what I know. But no matter how ignorant or dumb I am it is still a great song by a phenomenal artist Andrew Bird. So here's Your Stuck in My Head Song of the Day- Andrew Bird's Sovay

good night, good night.

OK No More Britney Posts After This One

My mind is really over Britney and most everything about her, so I've decided I'll only mention her here again if she does something really amazing and just bizarre, like if she enlisted in the Army. Or starts dating Prince Harry. I give my word.*
So here are a few things that are peripherally related to Britney (Ms. Spears if you're..her future Nurse Ratched)

  • Entertainment Weekly has listened to 4 of the new songs off Britney's album (so excited, ugh.) Here are some of the lyrics to Piece of Me, which was produced by the masters who made Toxic, and tha "kicks off with her standard breathy-sexy growl over a thumping hook: ''I'm Mrs. American dream/ Since I was 17.'' Then things get darker: ''I'm Mrs. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous/I'm Mrs. 'Oh my God, that Britney's shameless'/ I'm Mrs. 'Extra, extra, this just in' / I'm Mrs. 'She's too fat, now she's too thin.''' At other points in the song, she refers to herself as ''bad media karma'' and insists, ''Another day, another drama/ I can't see the harm in working hard and being a mama." I wonder if it has a hot beat. Anyway you can read the rest here.
  • I really regret posting that Chris Crocker video yesterday. I mean the kid was everywhere yesterday on tv, cable news and any website I ended up on. I didn't realize something could go from kind of funny to I'm over it and never want to see it again, in less than 24 hours and having only watched it in full once. And of course all the sites mentioned his androgynous appearance and subtly mocked it by italicizing their inevitable "this um...man" line. I still believe that it was an incredibly well acted plea and attempt at humour, maybe to gain publicity who knows, but it may just backfire. I know I linked to the stranger article on him at some point (it's a good read) and how he lives in a small Dixie town and life is tough because he is so out and open, but I just feel having your face on every media site or source crying may make things more difficult by exposing your face and image, or whatever to bigots who may not be familiar with your internet work. And maybe you actually do feel such sympathy for Britney because you too have been ostracized and constantly made fun of, so you can relate to the pain such ridicule may cause. I totally understand and I hope everything works only for the good honey. But I could do without seeing your horrible blond hair for awhile. Enough already.
  • And finally it's good to see Kevin Federline came out of this whole mess looking clean and good. Of course by clean and good I mean not batshit crazy; I wouldn't have believed that was possible. Here's an interview with Extra about his new "acting thing".

*My word is my bond, unless something is really really too good to pass on.

He Has a Good Point? Maybe?

My "old friend" Chris Crocker has a new video passionately imploring the media to leave britney alone during her times of trouble and also decrying the hypocrisy of bashing her just to push copy. I really can't tell if he cares this much (he claims those are real tears-actors cry real tears too, honey) or if it is a brilliantly acted overexaggerated defense for a fallen star (where's David Spade's Hollywood Minute.) I like to think it's the latter because I wouldn't want to have laughed so much at real passion and the vicarious pain he must be feeling for her. And in honor of this video I will no longer make fun of Britney.
(Thanks be to Defamer for doing the dirty work of finding this)

(about half a million views in less than a day.wow)
And apparently (according to Page Six so Caveat Emptor) before her performance:

On Saturday, the day before the VMAs, Spears was scheduled to arrive at rehearsal at around 1 p.m. Our spy said, "She didn't even get to Las Vegas until 4:30 p.m.

To make matters worse, when she arrived in Vegas, Spears didn't go straight to rehearsals.
"She went to her hotel room and ordered a bunch of food and some frozen margaritas," the spy said. "She came down, like, an hour later with a frozen margarita in her hand."

"The dance number was spectacular - without her," said our spy at rehearsal. "When the stand-in was rehearsing with the dancers, in the hours they were all waiting for her, it was amazing. Then Britney showed up and refused to do anything. The dancers were supposed to lift and twirl her in the air a few times, and that just wasn't going to happen. The more complicated dance moves had to be erased because she couldn't do them."

Meanwhile, Spears was agitated because she didn't like the outfit MTV had selected for her.
"MTV wanted her to wear a corset outfit. It would have looked great and covered a lot of things up, but she hated it and didn't think it was sexy enough.

Oops. I was just stating "facts." That wasn't making fun of her was it?

TMI: Queer Kids, No?

(said to the tune of the Arcade Fire's No Cars Go)
Ok that is probably the worst title of one of these posts ever but I couldn't think of a better one, and I think it fits with the topic of tonight so I'll let it ride. Anyway I really hate how "important" I make this little things and how involved they are. Just to get in the right mood to write this I have to sit in a certain place, turn the lights down to a certain level, get moderately tipsy (and usually watch Ugly Betty but I've already seen tonight's like three times.) But these are one of those important things I need to do for my own sanity and also for you, beloved yet mythic reader, to get to know me a little better and understand in a small way, how I tick; I think that's what I really want more than anything with my friends and people who are important to me, for them to know me truly.
Ok here we go. I first thought of this topic yesterday when I was checking my bookmarks and saw that I had bookmarked a Youtube channel. It was the channel for Chris Crocker and I think I saved it some time ago because I thought he was gorgeous and also transgendered, and of course that's my one trick/seeming obsession. So I watched a few of his videos and, I don't know, I was sort of annoyed and irritated. I'm not sure if it's his personality or style or whatever but I was thinking I was "over" and never really comfortable with the "faggy" ultra femme big city fully self assured hipster style gay guy. I don't know why but...I think that's what I'm going to try to figure out here. I'm not sure if it's because at times it seems to be a caricature, or the appropriation of black women's slang (you know what I'm talking about) but I've never felt too comfortable with it. Perhaps because I feel it is kind of a stereotype of the "flaming queer" that "mainstream" America disapproves of and so in a way that image , that image of the promiscuous drug fueled club lifestyle, is a hindrance to equality and tolerance, but that can't be everything. Maybe it's just the lisp, I have no idea where it comes from. ( And about Chris, apparently he lives in a really small town in the South, and is not just a flamboyant Big City queer. It's all in this article, which really made me take a second look at him and sort of marvel. I couldn't even imagine how it hard it must be to be that out in such a small and conservative community, when I at times freak out and I live in L.A.)
Looking back at my childhood, because everything that's fucked up about anyone can be found when they were kids, but I remember (and I feel like I've told this before) my very first crush or person I was drawn to was Julia Roberts when she had almost a bowl cut and was wearing a jean jacket, so maybe I've always been drawn to the androgyne, or the pretty femme boy. Maybe it was because I spent a few years growing up, in the religious background of my mom and the avoidance of any outward sign of being different or feminine. Even know, when my mom is tolearting me being a girl after I came out to her she still sort of freaked out at the thought I may date a boy, so I guess her bias has seeped into my mind. I know in my mind I've always been femme but I feared letting that show. But everytime I've been in a gay club or whatever, at least before, there was always the idea that I was aggressive and dominant in terms of who would hit on me, which is the opposite of me sexually and so I felt jealous that I couldn't be tiny/tanorexic and obviously femme (though times change.) Maybe it was the fear of being thought of as different that affects me, though that is such a ludicrous notion now. Maybe it was because at the time I felt some pleasure in being the queer kid and I wanted to be the only one, as if my sexuality made me cooler, but only if no one else possessed it. Or maybe it's because they have such good skin and their makeup is better than mine. Once I've gotten to know them they've been good people but that initial recalcitrance, my perception of a party life I guess is hard to overcome. But I don't know I think it's how they may self identify, like if they self identify as a gay man then there's a bit of distance but once they identify themselves as transgendered then I'm far more likely to like them no matter what. Maybe it's because t that point there is more of a shared connection that I don't necessarily feel with gay guys, which I've never really thought of myself as. And I'm, in the stage where gay guys are really not into me because I wear dresses and have breasts and exude none of the masculinity in which they desire. I've never been so comfrotable with guys making out, though I'm not comfortable with most pda, perhaps because each act of love is an act of rebellion, but gay porn never did it for mem though that could be because I couldn't picture myself in that fantasy. I don't think I'm a self hating queer, as I've told so many people real lesbians, the kind who don't make out in bars or whatever just to satisfy their need for attention or to turn on guys, but real ones, have on the whole been the best people I know, but then I think about transsexuality and what I want. I would love if I was able to go completely stealth and be universally thought of as having ovaries, instead of in the slightly ambiguous place where I am pre surgeries. And maybe my transsexuality is an excuse or an actual repression of thoughts of being a boy who likes boys, an attempt to fit into where society says I should fit, in it's own very twisted way. But then I think of my rhetoric of wanting to break down gender and advance a more fluid notion of it, but I in some way am supporting the thousands year old and predominant binary system. Am I betraying the idea of LGBT pride by being what I am? I guess wanting a to be in a relationship with a guy makes me a conformist, that my wanting a vagina makes me a slave to the system; if I could go out with a little bit of stubble and still wear a dress and not give a fuck about reaction then I'd probably be freer than I believe I am, but I want that acceptance of "fitting in" and conforming to some idea of gender norms. And maybe that's why those flamboyant bois cause such turmoil within me; the fact that they can live so free within themselves and obvious that they don't fit into what society wants gendered or sexually and they don't care, that I'm just jealous. I know I'm going to hate this in the morning because I got drunker than I had planned and so my thoughts have muddled and this exercise failed. But, did you understand any of this? I'll see if I can recap; the femme bois who are prettier than me I don't think I like because maybe I have self hating issues, they hold back the cause of equality, I'm jealous or I am secretly all about a heteronormative society. But I'm still confused because I'm not sure how me possibly being "in love" with Hubby and wanting to marry her ties into that.
Ugh, that sucked. And I was so happy with how all my posts turned out today.
