I was watching Leaving Las Vegas last night and I was kind of interested in some of the background. As I tend do in these situations I went onto Wikipedia and found out that it was based on a book written by John O’Brien, a book which his father considered to be his "suicide note" .
From there I learned he was the brother of Erin O’Brien who writes a blog titled , The Erin O'Brien Owner's Manual for Human Beings
Which lead me to this frightening yet interesting “confession” of Erin’s about her addiction to Clamato.

Hello, my name is Erin, and I am a Clamatoholic. Clamato. Say it out loud and it sounds like a dirty word. Everyone crinkles their nose when I own up to loving it. Because culturally speaking, Clamato is like Spam's ugly-duckling stepsister. Canadians might drink this stuff by the gallon in their Bloody Caesars, but stateside, we think Clamato is weird or yucky or downright horrific - providing we know what it is.

"You drink tomato and clam juice?" my friends say with disgust after I explain the crux of Clamato.

"Um, yeah," I mumble and look down.

Even Motts is embarrassed by their 42-year-old clam drink. The label features a glistening glass of red liquid along with some celery, tomatoes, lime and, tucked behind the glass and barely visible, an innocuous-looking clam shell, as if to say, "Hey, there's lots to love in here! Never mind that pesky clam." Motts also doesn't like to own up to Clamato. The only place you'll find the maker's name is in tiny squeaking letters on the back label along with the mandatory address of origin and "product of USA."

Unlike buying a cute rectangular can of Spam, which is occasionally stacked in a we've-got-nothing-to-hide display at the end of the aisle (and yes, I have been known to wash down Ritz crackers topped with Spam and a dash of Tabasco with a Stroh's beer; and yes, I did even once make Spam sushi, which I proudly dubbed Cleveland Rolls), buying Clamato is a closeted experience.

Grocery managers know we Clamatoholics very well. Hence, there is never, ever a Clamato display of any sort. We don't like people watching us chew our nails as we fret over the "nutrition facts." And we'll pay any price, so you'll never see BOGO under the Clamato bottles, which are amid the land of Knudsen's Very Veggie and those dubious cans of Frank's Quality Kraut Juice.

Clamato is actually some combination of tomato concentrate, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, salt, onion/garlic powder, ascorbic acid "to maintain color" (I love that Mott's explains this ingredient to me, almost an apology: Hey, we only put the ascorbic acid in there to keep this shit good and red!), dried clam broth, vinegar and red 40 (Er ... about that last one, folks ... the tomatoes and ascorbic acid weren't quite doing the job so we went ahead and just added some of our regular red as well).

Eight ounces of Clamato contains 880 milligrams of sodium.

I tell myself every time that no one should drink anything that has 37 percent of the day's salt in one cup. What if I want a Cleveland roll later on? But one glass here and there, moderation and all that jazz, right? Thirty minutes on the elliptical will sweat that out, no problem.

With that intention, I pluck the stratified blood-red bottle from the shelf and drop it into my cart while evoking an image of tomorrow's breakfast: a whole wheat bagel, fat-free cream cheese and a sensible six-ounce glass of Clamato garnished with a lemon wedge. Call that a perfect send-off to the gym. What a good girl! Maybe I'll buy a fresh tube of pink lip gloss as well.

Full of self-satisfaction, I turn toward the rest of my errands, the remainder of the day and the fall of night.

The black space between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. is populated with even sleep and soft dreams. But then come the nameless hours between 2 and 5, which bring the demons and desires, the sleepless fits. I toss and turn, thinking my useless thoughts: Where is the dry cleaning slip? You would look stupid in Robin Meade's make up. Do not eff up. So it goes until the image of the gleaming bottle of Clamato comes crashing in on all of it. I try to push it away to no avail. In no time, I am tiptoeing down the stairs, snickering to myself like a misplaced Grinch on his way to suck down the last can of Who Hash.

Nude save a pair of cotton undies, the miracle of the refrigerator light spills upon me. I wrap my hands around the bottle and shake, shake, shake, all my Erin flesh jiggling along in celebration.

I relish the twist of the cap. The sound of the breaking seal is barely audible, but satisfying nonetheless. I don't bother with a glass, just stand ablaze in the glorious illumination of the open refrigerator, guzzling the clammy, sweet, salty, tomato-y nectar. I cannot stop myself.

I. Fucking. Love. Clamato.

The next morning, I wake with the uncomfortable results of consuming 3,520 milligams of sodium and 240 calories of what is essentially colored, flavored and diluted high fructose corn syrup. I slither to the breakfast table. My husband clears his throat with no further comment on my bloated appearance or the empty Clamato bottle on the counter.

"Never again," I vow in a throaty voice. "I'm never buying it again!"

Six months later, beads of sweat form on my upper lip as I peer up at the top shelf of the grocery juice aisle and reach up with a shaking hand.

I had no idea what Clamato was but learning it was made of clam and tomato juice, well...yeah.
But anyway I took that article as an opportunity and decided to try to help salvage Clamato by mixing it with that ultimate redeemer of man- booze and so

Here are some recipes taken from the Clamato website

Clamato Tequila
Ingredients:
* Clamato
* Tequila
* Tabasco sauce

Preparation:
In a glass serve some tequila Worcestershire, Tabascoª sauce and one lemon juice. Fill with CLAMATO add some salt if you like it . Decorate it with celery and put some salt.

Clamato Vodka
Ingredients:
* Clamato
* Vodka
* Tabasco sauce
* Worcestershire

Preparation:
In a glass serve some vodka, English sauce, Tabascoª sauce and one lemon juice. Fill with CLAMATO add some salt if you like it.

Pablo´s Boilermaker
Ingredients:
* 1/2 oz. bourbon
* 4 oz. Ginger Ale Canada Dry
* 6 oz. Clamato

Preparation:
Combine bourbon and ginger ale in a shaker over ice.
Serve in a rocks glass over ice with a 6 oz glass of
Clamato garnished with black pepper.

Roasted Mary
Ingredients:
* 1 oz. vodka
* 2 Tbsp. diced roasted red pepper
* 4 oz. Clamato
* lime juice as needed
* cilantro for garnish

Preparation:
In a blender, combine vodka, peppers, Clamato, lime juice and ice and blend until smooth. Garnish with a sprig of cilantro.

Margarita Rioja
Ingredients:
* 1 1/2 oz tequila
* 4 oz. Clamato dash worcestershire sauce
* dash hot sauce
* dash cumin
* cilantro for garnish

Preparation:
In a shaker, combine everything but the cilantro and shake well. Serve in a rocks glass and garnish with cilantro.

Tijuana Taxi
Ingredients:
* 1 oz. vodka
* 4 oz. Clamato
* 1 oz. beer
* squeeze of lime juice
* dash of hot sauce

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and serve in a rocks glass with a wedge of lime.

Chipotle Cocktail
Ingredients:
* 1 oz. vodka
* 4 oz. Clamato
* Chipotle (las needed)
* Lemon juice

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and serve in a highball glass with lime garnish

Clamato Spritzer
Ingredients:
* 5 oz. Clamato
* 1 oz. Squirt
* Lime juice ¨Rose¨

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and serve in a highball with lime garnish.

a couple of other recipes out there:

Clamato Cocktail
11⁄2 fl oz (37 ml) vodka
3 fl oz (75 ml) tomato juice
1 fl oz (25 ml) clamato juice
ice cubes as required

1. Pour the vodka, tomato juice and clamato juice into a shaker with ice cubes. Shake well.
2. Strain the mixture over ice cubes into old-fashioned glass(es) and serve.

Beer and Clamato
12.0 oz Beer
0.75 oz Clamato juice
Directions: Preferably use a regular beer (blonde) or a light beer. Pour clamato into the glass (3-4 oz for a 12 oz beer) and top with beer. Very pleasant in hot weather or when you want to cut down on alcohol.

11⁄2 oz Vodka
3 Dashes Worcestershire Sauce
3 Dashes Tabasco
Salt & Pepper
Fill Clamato Juice

Line the rim of a glass with salt and pepper. Over ice, add vodka, fill with clamato juice, then add the remaining ingredients. Garnish with a celery stick.


None of those sound actually enticing to me but we all have different tastes…

1 dash lemon juice
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 - 3 drops Tabasco® sauce
1 lime wedge
Shake all ingredients (except lime wedge) with ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the wedge of lime and serve.

The Olympian for the vengeance drama Munich
2 oz dark rum,
2 oz cherry brandy
fill with lime juice

"One could question The Carjacker (a highly potent variation on the Long Island with vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec, sour mix and fresh orange juice) as making light of the racial conflicts that drive Crash. But one intoxicating sip will likely wash away any concerns.
1 part vodka
1 part tequila
1 part rum
1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix
1 splash Orange juice

Mix ingredients together over ice in a glass. Pour into a shaker and give one brisk shake. Pour back into the glass and make sure there is a touch of fizz at the top. Garnish with lemon.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- Thank The Tasting Panel Edition

One of my high school friends works at The Tasting Panel magazine and consequently I've become part of her Facebook mailing group where every week they send out "drinks of the week" recipes, which is like a god send for me. And so here are the recipes they've sent out this month
(from January 4th edition)

Spiked Liquid S’More
In a warm, over-sized coffee mug, first rim the glass with crushed graham crackers, then pour in
1 to 1-1/2 oz. of your favorite spirit of choice, then fill the mug with hot chocolate. Garnish with melted marshmallow and a graham cracker on the side.

Barn Burner
In a small-medium Mason jar, throw in a stick of cinnamon, then add 11/2 oz. Southern Comfort and fill with hot apple cider. Garnish with a slice of lemon peel.

Hot Tub Heaven
In an Irish Coffee glass, pour in 3/4 oz. Hiram Walker peppermint schnapps, 3/4 oz. Amaretto di Amore, and 3/4 oz. Carolan’s Irish cream. Fill with hot coffee and garnish with whipped cream.

Stanley Steamer
In a warm mug, pour in 1/2 oz. Hennessey cognac, 1/2 oz. Tai Maria, 1/2 oz. St. Brendan’s Irish cream or Brennan’s Irish eggnog. Fill mug with hot coffee and garnish with whipped cream and top with a lace of Grand Marnier.

Chocolate Sin
Pour in a warm mug 1-1/2 oz. Myers’s dark rum, 1/2 oz. Maker’s Mark bourbon and 1/2 oz. Arrow dark crème de cacao. Fill with hot chocolate and garnish with fresh whipped cream.

Fireside
In a large tea cup, pour in 1-1/2 oz. VooDoo spiced rum and 3/4 oz. Tuaca. Fill with hot tea and garnish with slices of apple and a few small chunks of soft caramel on the side.

Between the Sheets Cocktail
Between the Sheets is a shake-and-strain drink that goes in a chilled cocktail glass, getting 3⁄4 oz each of the following: Beefeater gin, Bacardi white rum, Cointreau and lemon juice. Pour and garnish with a twist of lemon peel.

Black Stockings Martini
In a shaker add 2 oz Van Gogh Dutch chocolate vodka with 3⁄4 oz Chambord
black raspberry liqueur and 3⁄4 oz Godiva white chocolate liqueur. Shake till cold, then strain into the glass. Garnish with chocolate "legs."

Skinny Dippin'
11⁄2 oz Belvedere vodka, 1⁄2 oz Amaretto DiSaronno, 1⁄2 oz Bols peach schnapps and a splash of Ocean Spray cranberry juice. Garnish with a slice of fresh peach.

Strawberry Stripper
Start with 11⁄2 oz strawberry schnapps of your choice, close to fill with cold orange juice and top with a dash of cold cream. Garnish with a slice of fresh strawberry.

From the 18th of January

The Diddy Cocktail
2 ounces Ciroc vodka
1 ounce fresh lemonade
1 ounce pineapple juice
1 ounce cranberry juice
Maraschino cherry
Lime zest

Stir all ingredients in a tall glass over ice. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry and a strip of lime zest.

Yeah, she has a pretty sweet job.

Mulled Red Wine

Ingredients:
8 whole cloves
4 whole black peppercorns
4 (3 x 1⁄2 inch) strips fresh lemon zest
4 (4 x 1⁄2 inch) strips fresh orange zest
4 cups dry red wine (from two 750 mil bottles)
1⁄2 cup kirsch or other cherry-flavored brandy
1 1⁄2 cups water
3⁄4 cup sugar
1 (3 inch) cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise

Garnish: cinnamon sticks
Special equipment: a 4-inch square of cheesecloth; kitchen string

Directions:
Put cloves, peppercorns, and zest on cheesecloth, then tie closed to form a bag.
Combine wine, kirsch, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and cheesecloth bag in a 4-quart saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring.

Simmer 10 minutes. Serve warm.


Hot Holiday Punch

Ingredients
2 Egg
2 tbs. Sugar
2 oz. Brandy
Milk

Directions:
Beat egg yolks, sugar and brandy. Pour into two warmed glasses or punch cups. Fill with hot milk, stir and sprinkle with grated nutmeg. Preferably fresh.

Steaming Hot Holiday Punch

3 cups Apple Juice
1.5 tsp. ground Cinnamon
0 cinnamon stick
0.75 tsp. ground Cloves
6 cups Cranberry juice
0.75 cup Maple Syrup
0.75 tsp. ground Nutmeg
3 cups Orange Juice
2 tsp. Powdered Sugar

Directions:
Combine all the ingredients in a very large heavy pan, except the cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil and turn to simmer for few minutes. You can put the ingredients in a crockpot after it has boiled and keep warm over low heat.


Holiday Punch

2-48 oz. (1.36 L) cans pineapple juice
1-40 oz. (1.14 L) bottle cranberry juice
2-750 mL bottles soda water
1 litre strawberry, raspberry or lime sherbet
Fifth of.Vodka
Directions
In a punch bowl, mix juices. Pour in soda water. Top with scoops of sherbet.


Frostbite

-1⁄2 oz. Tequila
-1⁄2 oz. white crème de cacao
-1⁄2 oz. blue Curacao
-1⁄2 oz. cream

Pour ingredients into a mixing glass, shake, strain and serve in a chilled glass.


Christmas Love

1⁄4 oz. brandy
1 oz. sherry
Dash of lemon juice
1 sugar cube
3 oz sparkling white wine

Pour brandy and sherry in a flute glass, and stir in the lemon juice and sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves, and refrigerate. When you are ready to serve, add the sparkling wine.


Three Wise Men

1⁄2 oz. bourbon whiskey
1⁄2 oz. Tennessee whiskey
1⁄2 oz. Scotch whisky

Put ingredients in a glass, drink.


The Cranberry Celebration

3 oz. cranberry juice
2 oz.orange juice
1/8 oz. lime cordial soda water
frozen cranberries
11⁄2 oz vodka

Directions
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 3 oz cranberry juice, 2 oz orange juice and 1/8 oz lime cordial. Shake sharply and strain into a collins glass filled with ice. Top with soda water and sprinkle with frozen cranberries

The Chocolate Milk Whip

4 oz.chocolate milk
2 oz. cold coffee
whipped cream
shaved chocolate
2 oz. Bailey's

Directions
Fill a tall glass with ice. Add 4 oz. chocolate milk and 2 oz. cold coffee and Bailey's. Top with whipped cream and garnish with shaved chocolate.


Feel Like Holiday

1 cl.Vodka
1 cl. Grenadine
100 ml. Champagne

Directions:
Stir Vodka and Grenadine with Ice. Fill in a champagne glass without the ice and fill up witch champagne.


Black Santa
Liqueur, coffee 3/4 oz.
Schnapps, peppermint 1/4 oz.
Vodka 1/2 oz.

Pour the vodka and Kahlua coffee liqueur into an old-fashioned glass half-filled with ice cubes. Add the peppermint schnapps and serve.

Jäger Nog

Jägermeister 1 part
Eggnog 1 part
Cinnamon 1 sprinkle
Pour equal parts eggnog and Jägermeister into glass. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Candy Cane Martini

1/2 oz. vodka
1 tsp. peppermint schnapps

Mixing instructions:
Mix all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Option: Garnish with a small candy cane or create a candy cane "rimmer" with crushed candy canes.

Grinch

2 oz. Midori
1/2 oz. lemon juice (fresh)
1 tsp. sugar syrup

Mix all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Option: Garnish this green drink with a red cherry.

Purple Jesus (I just really like that name)

1.0 oz Ginger Ale
2.0 oz Vodka
1.0 oz Grape Juice
Fill a Highball glass almost full with ice cubes. Pour all ingredients into Highball glass, stir well, and serve.

Santa Claus is Coming

0.5 oz. Cinnamon Schnapps
0.5 oz. Melon liqueur
0.5 oz. Rumplemintz
Layer in a large shot glass, top with whipped cream "snow".

Why Santa Has a Naughty List

Amaretto 1 oz.
Gin 1 oz.
Liqueur, banana 1 oz.
Grenadine 1/2 oz.
Sprite Fill with

Add gin and amaretto to a collins glass filled with ice. Fill almost full with sprite. Add grenadine slowly, then layer banana liqueur on top.

Santa’s Pole

1.0 fill with Lemon Lime Soda
2.0 splash Grenadine
1.0 shot Peppermint Schnapps
1.0 shot Vodka

Merry Christmas
1 oz. cranberry juice
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 oz. Plymouth Gin
Schweppes ® Club Soda

Mixing instructions:
Stir the gin, cranberry and lemon juice in a highball glass filled with ice. Top up with soda.
Option: Sprinkle with dried, or fresh cranberries and a lemon wedge.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- National Bouillabaisse Day Edition

I had nothing in mind to do for a "drink of the week" and so I decided to see if anything cool happened today that I could leech onto for an idea and on Wikipedia I discovered that an awful lot of important or famous things occurred on December 14th, though of course I'm sure over the entire extent of history something cool and exciting has probably happened on every day even if it wasn't recognized as such at the time.
Anyway I said all that to say here are a few recipes relating to things that have happened on December 14th

Today in 1542 Princess Mary Stuart becomes Queen Mary I of Scotland or Mary, Queen of Scots

Queen of Scots
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp water
1 tsp lemon juice
2 oz Scotch whisky
1/2 tsp Green Chartreuse®
1/2 tsp Blue Curacao liqueur

Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.

Mary, Queen of Scots
1 Lemon Quarter
Caster Sugar
2-3 Ice Cubes
30ml/1fl.oz. Scotch Whisky
15ml/1/2fl.oz./1 tbsp Drambuie
15ml/1/2fl.oz./1 tbsp Green Chartreuse
1 Cocktail Cherry

Instructions
1. Rub the rim of a cocktail glass with the lemon then dip the rim into caster sugar to coat. Allow the frosting to dry.
2. Crack the ice (but don't crush it into too small pieces) and place in a shaker together with the Scotch, Drambuie and Chartreuse.
3. Shake well and strain into the frosted cocktail glass. Spear the cherry onto a cocktail stick and use to decorate.

Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:

Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

It is December 7th and in honor of Pearl Harbor Day my original plan for this space was to, obviously enough, profile the Kamikaze but then I did a minimal level of searching and I cam across a few more drinks that, at least in my mind are easily tied together in a narrative so I decided to try it.

On December 6th all was peaceful and happy and there was a military base in Hawaii called

1/2 oz melon liqueur
5 oz pineapple juice

Add ingredients to a highball glass with ice.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- Contented Winter Edition

My original plan was to try to list some cocktails that referenced December, but since I couldn't find any (if you know of any, lemme know) I decided to find cocktails that spoke of winter, because Deember is the start of winter and it is the time I usually acknowledge the passing away of Fall. Anywhoo here are a few to that should warm you up during these cold dark winter days. Blah Blah.

Winters Moon
1/2 Benedictine. (1 1/2 oz,)
1/4 2 Dagger Rum. (1 oz,)
1/4 lemon juice. (3/4 oz,)
1 dash orange curacao.
1 dash Angostura bitters.

Shake with ice and strain
Serve in a cocktail glass (4.5 oz)

Winter Caribbean Heat
1 oz Caribbean rum
1 oz Frangelico
6 oz hot chocolate

Combine ingredients in irish coffee mug, fill with hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.


Chiquita Winter
Liqueur, banana 2 oz.
Rum, coconut 3 oz.
Vodka 1 oz.
Banana 1 whole (Chiquita)
Ice 1 Cup
Ice Cream, vanilla 3 scoops
Vanilla Extract 3 drops

Add ice cream, rum, vodka, and creme de banana to a blender. Blend until smooth. Add banana and vanilla extract, blend again, and slowly add ice until all is blended smoothly. Serve in a fosted glass and enjoy.


Russian Winter
Rum, overproof/151 proof (Bacardi 151) 1/2 oz.
Vodka (Smirnoff) 1 oz.
Coffee, instant 5 oz. (cold)

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Mix well and then strain into an ice cold collins glass.


Willy's Warm Winter
Irish Cream (Bailey's) 2 oz.
Godiva 2 oz.
Rum, dark 1 oz.
Whipped cream lots

First the rum. Then the bailey's. Warm the Godiva and put it on top of the bailey's. Generous cream to top it all.


Winter Break
Pernod 2 oz.
Pineapple Juice fill with

Put ice (3 or 4 cubes) in a highball glass. Add the Pernod and fill with pineapple juice.


Winter Breeze
Irish Cream (Bailey's) 1 oz.
Creme de Cacao, white 1 oz.
Liqueur, vanilla 1 oz.
Milk Fill with

Combine ingredients in a mug and stir.


Winter Green Dragon
Chartreuse, green 1 oz.
Rum, overproof/151 proof 1/2 oz.
Rumple Minze 1/2 oz.

Put all in a frozen double shot glass and slam!


Winter Hemorrhage
Irish Cream (Bailey's) 1/2 oz.
Schnapps, peppermint 1 oz.

Pour peppermint schnapps into shot glass, then layer Bailey's.


Winter White Russian
Kahlua 1 1/2 oz.
Vodka 1 1/2 oz.
Ice Cream, vanilla 2-3 cups

Put ice cream, Kahlua, (or you can substitute Kamora), Vodka and about 4 or 5 ice cubes - depending on how thick you like you frozen drinks. Blend together in blender, and enjoy.


Dreamy Chocolate Winter
1 oz Irish cream
1 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
amaretto almond liqueur
6 oz hot chocolate

Pour kahlua and irish cream into a heatproof cup with hot chocolate. Add amaretto, to taste. Stir, and serve.


Dreamy Winter Delight
2 oz Irish cream
6 oz hot chocolate
amaretto almond liqueur

Pour irish cream into a heatproof cup with hot chocolate. Add amaretto, to taste. Stir, and serve.


Winter Storm
1/2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz amaretto almond liqueur
1/2 oz sambuca
1/2 oz Frangelico® hazelnut liqueur
4 oz coffee

Mix ingredients in a tall glass over ice, stir and enjoy.


Napoleon’s Mexican Winter
1 1/2 oz Courvoisier® cognac
1 1/2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
2 oz light cream

Pour the Kahlua coffee liqueur into a mug, followed by the cream, and then the Courvoisier, and stir them together. Microwave on high for about 30 seconds, and serve.


R.B. Winter
1 oz Southern Comfort® peach liqueur
1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
apple juice
1 splash lime juice

Pour southern comfort and amaretto into an ice-filled highball glass. Fill with apple juice, and shake briefly. Add a splash of lime juice, and serve.


Taste of Winter
4 cl Absolut® Citron vodka
1 cl Heering® cherry liqueur
1 cl Galliano® herbal liqueur
fill with Schweppes® Russian tonic water

Build in the glass. Plenty of ice cubes


Winter Breeze
1 oz creme de cacao
1 oz vanilla schnapps
1 oz Irish cream
milk

Pour liquors into a beer mug, and fill with milk. Stir, and serve.


Winter Garden
2 oz Canadian whisky
1/2 oz peach schnapps
1/4 oz sweet sherry

Shake, strain into a glass filled with crushed ice, and serve.


Winter Parker
3/4 oz amaretto almond liqueur
3/4 oz Irish Mist® herbal liqueur
1/2 oz strawberry schnapps
1/2 oz cherry juice
3 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz grenadine syrup
1 lime wedge

Pour ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes, shake and strain into an old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a lime wedge, and serve.


Winter Tropic
1 1/2 oz vodka
1 1/2 oz cranberry juice
1 1/2 oz strawberry margarita mix

Pour vodka into a hurricane glass. Add cranberry juice and margarita mix simultaneously, and serve


Winter Wine
35 cl red wine
2 oz cognac
1 pinch cinnamon
1 tbsp honey
2 oz water

Heat in a small saucepan and pour into heat-proof cups just before boiling. Add a slice of lemon to each cup, and serve.


Winter Sparkler
1 lemon
1 lime
1 cup southern comfort
1 cup peach schnapps
2 750 ml brut Champagne
3 peaches
30 whole cloves
ice block

Place ice in punch bowl. Squeeze juice of lime and lemon. Add peach schnapps and southern comfort then stir. Pierce peach skin with cloves then add to bowl. Pour champagne and stir gently. Serve in punch glasses (Makes 25 servings).

Last week the Washington Post had an article titled "Don't Fear The Egg White" about the feeling of distaste people may have when hearing about including an egg white in their cocktails, but also the fact that this same people, if unaware of that ingredient enjoy the drinks all the same.
Ok I don't know what I'm saying right now so here are some cocktail recipes, egg white included.

1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/2 tsp superfine Sugar

In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine all of the ingredients. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.

2 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Triple sec
1/2 tsp Grenadine

Lady Love Fizz
2 oz Gin
2 tsp Light cream
1 tsp Powdered sugar
Juice of 1/2 Lemon

Carbonated water
Shake all ingredients (except carbonated water) with ice and strain into a cocktail glass over two ice cubes. Fill with carbonated water, stir, and serve.

Million-Dollar Cocktail
1 1/2 oz Gin
3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth
2 tsp Pineapple juice
1 tsp Grenadine
1 Egg white
Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.


Phreaker Cocktail
1/2 fifth Vodka
1 pint Triple sec
2 pint Pineapple juice
1 pint Lemon juice
1/2 fifth Water
1 1/2 cup Sugar
1 Egg white
Fill a fifth bottle half vodka, half water. Leaving enough water out to add the egg white. Shake well until egg is thoroughly mixed. Add into punch bowl with the Triple Sec, pineapple juice, and lemon juice. Add sugar. (more or less for taste).

Rebel Yell
2 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Triple sec
1 oz Lemon juice
1 Egg white
1 Orange slice
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the bourbon, Cointreau, lemon juice, and egg white. Shake well. Pour into an old-fashioned glass and garnish with the orange slice.

Wolfsbane
2 oz Vodka
1 1/2 oz Cherry brandy (or other flavour)
1/2 oz Cream
1 Egg white
Lemon juice
Sugar
Rub inside of glass with lemon juice, then sprinkle with sugar. Freeze glass to achieve a frosted affect. Shake together the other ingrediants. Pour into frosted glass and enjoy!

The Porn Star
In a shaker filled with ice add:
2 ounces of vodka
1 ounce of Chambord or raspberry liquor
2 ounces fresh lime juice
2 ounces fresh lemon juice
Egg white from one fresh organic egg or alternative

Shake Well

Bird of Paradise Fizz
Shake in iced cocktail shaker & strain/build
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
1 egg white
1/4 oz grenadine

An hour and a half ago I forgot that I do these things and so I had no idea what should be my inspiration for a drink of the week. But then I checked my e-mail and apparently I'm still on some Duke listservs one of them sent out to remind everyone that this weekend is N.C. Pride weekend , which is kind of a big deal for many reasons not least of which it culminates with a parade and gathering on East Campus. So I took that as my motivation and stealing a LGBT symbol I decided to focus and find "rainbow" themed drinks. Enjoy (and you don't have to be gay to enjoy them either- alcohol is alcohol y'know)


Rainbow Cocktail

1/2 part Vodka
1/2 part Aftershock® (blue)
1/2 part Aftershock® (red)
1/2 part Banana liqueur
1/2 part Blue curaçao
1/2 part Crème de menthe (green)
top up Soda water
1/2 Lemonade
Lemon slice
2 tablespoons Sour mix
Ice (crushed)
Blue cocktail cherry
Lime slice

Directions:
packed crushed ice, add all ingredients, add lemonade, add soda, add sours
garnish


Over the Rainbow
2 oz rum (spiced)
1 oz orange curacao liqueur
2 scoops rainbow sherbert
4 slices peeled peaches
2 strawberries

Combine all ingredients with one cup of crushed ice in a blender. Blend until smooth, and pour into a parfait glass. Garnish with a strawberry and a slice of peach, and serve.

Rainbow Brew
1 oz Malibu® coconut rum
1 oz triple sec
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
1 1/2 oz vodka
4 oz cranberry juice
2 splashes peach schnapps

Pour slowly into a hurricane glass, in order.



Rainbow Brite
1 oz gin
2 oz tonic water
1 scoop sherbet

Mix the gin and tonic, then add the sherbert. It should foam up in a rainbow like a root beer float.

Rainbow Orgy
1/2 oz Midori® melon liqueur
1/2 oz strawberry liqueur
1/2 oz banana liqueur
4 1/2 oz orange juice

Pour the Midori melon liqueur, strawberry liqueur and banana liqueur into a cocktail shaker one-third filled with ice cubes. Shake well, and pour entire contents into a highball glass. Top with orange juice, and serve.


Rainbow Road
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz lemon liqueur
5 oz lemon-lime mix
1 splash Blue Curacao liqueur
1 splash melon liqueur
1 splash grenadine syrup

Shake the first three ingredients and pour into a lowball glass filled with cracked ice. On the left side add the splash of grenadine, in middle the splash of blue curacao and on the right side add the melon liqueur. Garnish with a cherry and a slice of lime.

Rainbow Punch
3 Shots Orange Juice
3 Shots Pineapple Juice
1 Large Dash De Kuyper Grenadine
1 Large Dash Soda
0.5 Shot Lime Juice
0.5 Shot Sugar Syrup

Shake all the ingredients except the soda water together and strain into a sling glass half filled with ice cubes. Top up with soda water.

Rainbow Yellow
1 oz. Chopin Vodka
1/2 oz. Navan Vanilla Liqueur (from Grand Marnier)
1 oz. pineapple juice
1/4 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice
1/4 oz. simple syrup
Directions:
Shake over ice and strain into a chilled glas

The Washington Post this week had a story about the Lotus Lounge and their Pick the Potus at Lotus" promotion. From the article "So you want to support your presidential candidate. And, let's be honest, you wouldn't mind tossing back a few in the process. Perfect. You can do both at downtown Washington's Lotus Lounge, which is running a "Pick the POTUS at Lotus" promotion (POTUS, of course, stands for president of the United States). It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- Getting Ready for Autumn

I've personally felt like shit for all of today. I don't know if I was just hung over, because it lasted longer than any hang over should last considering the amount I drank but I have felt awful. And what's worse is my baby, my 527 betrayed me. I guess I can't drink like I used to anymore- I think I'm getting old.
But just because I'm aged and decrepit and not drinking for awhile doesn't mean you shouldn't (drink that is.) And because it is past Labor Day, which means that summer is over, apparently (and I have noticed it's been getting darker earlier;ugh) , here are some cocktail recipes that I've found that are more autumny, or fally if you prefer:

Cedarwood
2 oz vodka
4 oz cranberry juice
1 oz lemon juice
3 oz ginger ale

In a tall glass over ice combine lemon juice, vodka, cranberry juice and ginger ale. Stir and serve.

Peppermint Mojito Frappe
2 oz white rum
4 oz brut champagne
1/2 lime, cut into wedges
3 sprigs fresh mint
1 tbsp sugar

Muddle the sugar, mint, and lime with 2 or 3 ice cubes in a cocktail shaker until everything is well crushed. Add rum, cover, and shake. Strain the frothy mixture into a flute, making sure to get some of the crushed mint leaves in the cocktail. Top with champagne


Cranberry Margaritas
1 1/4 cup cranberry juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup fresh frozen cranberries, rinsed
3/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
3/4 cup tequila
1/2 cup Grand Marnier
ice

Pour half of mixture in the blender and fill rest with ice. Blend. Repeat with second half of mixture. Makes minimum of two blender batches.

Cubacrany
4 oz Puerto Rican white rum
6 oz cranberry juice
1/2 lemon

In a mixing glass filled with ice combine all ingredients. Stir then strain into two 6-ounce glasses filled with ice. (Makes two servings.)

Autumn Twist
1 1/4 oz Calvados or Apple Schnapps
1/4 oz Goldschlager

Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Apple Pie Punch
2 cups apple juice or cider
4 ounces spiced rum
2 ounces cinnamon Schnapps
1 red apple, sliced
Directions:
1. Combine apple juice, rum, and Schnapps in a punch bowl or pitcher.
2. Serve punch over ice and garnish with red apple slices.

Pear Brandy Champagne Cocktail
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup plus 4 teaspoons French pear brandy*
2 2/3 cups chilled champagne
1 Seckel or small Bosc pear

*The most well-known brand of French pear brandy available in the U.S. is Poire William (recommended for this recipe).

1. In a small saucepan, heat sugar and 1/4 cup pear brandy over moderate heat until sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes.
2. Remove pan from heat and cool syrup.
3. Spoon 1 1/2 tablespoons syrup into each of 4 champagne glasses and add 1 teaspoon pear brandy to each glass.
4. Add 2/3 cup champagne to each glass and stir well.
5. Cut pear lengthwise into thin slices and add 1 slice to each cocktail.

Tennessee Highball

1.5 oz. Gentleman Jack Sour Mash Whiskey
1.25 oz. sweet and sour
Splash ginger ale
2-3 dashes orange bitters

Serve on the rocks with an orange twist

Five-Card Draw

1.5 oz. bourbon
.5 oz. Bacardi spiced rum
Splash half-and-half

In a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice, combine the bourbon and rum. Shake hard and fast, then immediately strain into an old-fashioned glass over rocks. Drizzle on the half-and-half and serve.

Fallen Leaves

.75 oz. Calvados
.75 oz. sweet vermouth
.25 oz. dry vermouth
Dash brandy
Lemon twist

Shake on ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass. Squeeze the lemon twist over the surface, then drop it into the glass.

Honey Dove
3 ounces of cognac
2 spoonfulls of honey
2 splashes of Silk Vanilla Soy Milk

Pour the ingredients over ice into a shaker cup.
Shake until frothy. Strain into a martini glass.


Scarlett Bloom
2 oz. tea-infused Miller's Gin
3/4 oz. South African youngberry juice
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1 bar spoon simple syrup
3/4 oz. champagne

Pour the first four ingredients into a martini glass and add the champagne

Old Fashioned
1-2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 1/2-2 oz. bourbon or Canadian whiskey
Dash sugar syrup or to taste
Dash Water

Mix all ingredients in an Old Fashioned glass and add several ice cubes (no fruit)

Rusty Nail
1 1/2 oz. scotch
1 oz. Drambuie

Pour ingredients into a chilled Old Fashioned glass along with several ice cubes. Stir.

Smashing Pumpkin Martini
3 ounces Infused Spiced Pumpkin Vodka
1 ounce Amaretto
Toasted pumpkin seeds for garnish

1. Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice.
2. Stir gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere-The Spoils of War

Newsweek published an article about the effects that war has on the zeitgeist, or more specifically the making and naming of drinks that evoke a certain conflict, or that at times can be used to mock the enemy. I had never really thought about it why, for instance the kamikaze shot is named kamikaze, but it makes sense. Or "getting bombed" or sake bomb or whatever. I know in my normal converstion I use the term "get blitzed" to mean get wasted inspired by the wreckage and quick force and power that the blitzkrieg was all about. Anyway I picked out the recipes from the article and compiled them here for easier consumption.

Osama bin Laden
1 oz Absinthe (or Pernod liquor)
1 dash(es) Tabasco Sauce
take as a shot.

Guantanamo Bay Breeze
a shake-up of 1 part citrus vodka,
tablespoon pureed pineapple and
2 part cranberry Juice

Jihad Cocktail
2 oz. Finlandia vodka,
3 oz. of lemon-lime soda, and
2 oz. of orange juice

Shock and Awe
a 100-proof shot of whiskey
dropped in a glass of Red Bull
taken as a shot

Afghanistany Whore
4 oz rum
1 can root beer
4 oz vodka

Dirty Bomb
2 oz absinthe (or vanilla liquor and jager)
1 can red bull
drop absinthe (or vanilla liquer/jager) into red bull
take as a shot

French 75
1 1/2 oz gin
2 tsp superfine sugar
1 1/2 oz lemon juice
4 oz chilled Champagne
1 slice orange
1 maraschino cherry

In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the gin, sugar, and lemon juice. Shake well. Pour into a collins glass. Top with the champagne. Stir well and garnish with the orange slice and the cherry

Kamikaze shot
1 - 3 oz vodka
1 oz triple sec
1 oz lime juice

Napalm
1/2 oz Aftershock® Hot & Cool cinnamon schnapps
1/2 oz cinnamon schnapps
1 splash 151 proof rum

Pour into a shot glass in order; aftershock, schnapps, rum. Ignite the rum, allow to burn for a few seconds, extinguish, and serve.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- Speakeasy Style

This week I was inspired by an article from those Libertarians at Reason Magazine. The story was about the Politics of Prohibition and it stated that contrary to popular conception that Prohibition was repealed because citizens and politicians realized that temperance and sobriety weren't in fact possible to achieve on a national level but rather the 18th Amendment was repealed because the government needed money.

"By 1920, the income tax supplied two-thirds of Uncle Sam's revenues and nine times more revenue than was then supplied by liquor taxes and customs duties combined. In research that I did with University of Michigan law professor Adam Pritchard, we found that bulging income-tax revenues made it possible for Congress finally to give in to the decades-old movement for alcohol prohibition....Prohibition appeared to be here to stay -- until income-tax revenues nose-dived in the early 1930s.From 1930 to 1931, income-tax revenues fell by 15 percent.
In 1932 they fell another 37 percent; 1932 income-tax revenues were 46 percent lower than just two years earlier. And by 1933 they were fully 60 percent lower than in 1930.
With no end of the Depression in sight, Washington got anxious for a substitute source of revenue.
That source was liquor sales."

So two lessons can be learned from this; if you want to get "The Man" to do anything you need to squeeze and strangle his life blood, or mess with his money, and more importantly, that booze saved America. What a noble substance.
Anyway in honor of this tidbit and me learning stuff here are a few Prohibition Era drinks that I found and selected because I liked their names. You can find more here. Or in this book.

White Lady
Sophisticated Prohibition Era Cocktail
Ingredients:
1 1/2 Tbsp Gin
1 1/2 Tbsp Cointreau
1 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

Mix all ingredients and strain and pour into a Cocktail Glass.

Parisian
1920s Cocktail
Ingredients:
1 1/2 Tbsp Gin
1 1/1 Tbsp Noilly Prat

Combine all ingredients with ice and shake. Strain into cocktail glass and add a couple of blackcurrents to the glass.


Pink Pussycat
Sweet and Saucy Gin Cocktail
Ingredients:
3 Tbsp Gin
4 Tbsp Pineapple Juice
3 Tbsp Grapefruit Juice
2 Tsp Grenadine

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a tall glass. Garnish with a piece of grapefruit.

Bennett
1920s Short Drink
6 Tsp Gin
2 Tsp Lime Juice
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.

Cream Gin Fizz
1 1/2 oz Gin
1 1/2 oz milk
3 tsps sugar
4 tbsps lime juice
4 ice cubes
1/2 cup crushed ice
Seltzer

Combine all ingredients except crushed ice and seltzer into a cocktail shaker. Mix vigorously. Strain into a highball glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a slice of lime

Luigi
1920s Classic Cocktail
6 Tsp Gin
6 Tsp Dry Vermouth
1 Tsp Grenadine
Dash Cointreau
Juice of Half an Orange

Shake with ice and strain into a glass. Garnish with a segment of tangerine.

Horses Neck
1 Lemon
3 Tbsp Gin
Ginger Ale

Hang an entire lemon rind cut in a spiral shape, from the edge of the glass. Mix gin with ice and top with ginger ale.

Or if you want to really get in the spirit you can wear your Flapper costume and make your own moonshine. You can find quite a few here, or just google; you'll be amazed

Whiskey

INGREDIENTS:

10 lbs. Whole kernel corn, untreated

5 Gallons Water

1 Cup Yeast, champagne yeast starter

DIRECTIONS:

Put corn in a burlap bag and wet with warm water. Place bag in a warm dark

place and keep moist for about ten days. When the sprouts are about a 1/4" long

the corn is ready for the next step. Wash the corn in a tub of water, rubbing

the sprouts and roots off.. Throw the sprouts and roots away and transfer the

corn into your primary fermenter. With a pole or another hard object mash the

corn, make sure all kernels are cracked. Next add 5 gallons of boiling water

and when the mash cools add yeast. Seal fermenter and vent with a water sealed

vent. Fermentation will take 7-10 days. When fermentation is done, pour into

still filtering through a pillow case to remove all solids.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere-Animated Edition

I've had a horrible day so far so I really need a drink, but when you're talking about the Simpsons only one drink (besides Duff of course) comes to mind; The Flaming Moe,errr, Flaming Homer:

The Internet is full of people's attempts to recreate the Flaming Momer, because the ingredient "every kind of liquor in the house" is a little vague, so here are a couple of variations:
From about.com

• 1 oz brandy
• 1 oz peppermint schnapps
• 1 oz sloe gin
• 1 oz blackberry liqueur
• 1 oz strawberry juice
• cough syrup

1. Pour all ingredients except the cough syrup in a highball
2. Stir.
3. Add cough syrup.
4. Ignite and extinguish before drinking.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- Keeping the Love Alive

The research I do for this site. Anyway I went to Webtender and searched 6 thousand plus recipes for cocktail recipes that evoked for me a sense of love and beauty and happiness, or at least had names to that effect. It's pretty remarkable how many drink names are so violent and sexual in nature. If I wasn't such an Aristocrat I might have been offended. Anyway these are the ones that made me happy and I liked so here we go.
A Smile
Ingredients:
* 1 1/2 oz Vodka
* 1 1/2 oz Light rum
* 1 1/2 oz Creme de Cassis
* 6 oz Orange juice
* 6 oz double strength Lemonade
* 1 oz Grenadine
* 1 scoop Whipped cream

Mixing instructions:
With three ice cubes put vodka, light rum, cassis, orange juice, and frozen lemonade made at double strength into a shaker. Shake well. Place half the grenadine in the bottom of each white wine glass, pour in shaken mixture till withine inch of rim. With a large spoon drop whipped cream carefully in glass. Take small spoon spread to all the edges and to look nice.

Beautiful
Ingredients:
* 1 oz Cognac (Hennessy)
* 1 oz Grand Marnier

Mixing instructions:
Pour each ingredient into the snifter and serve.

P.S. I Love You
Ingredients:
* 1/2 shot Bailey's irish cream
* 1/2 shot Grand Marnier
* 1 splash White Creme de Menthe
* Nutmeg
* About 75 ml Cream, single
* Ice

Mixing instructions:
Mix the Baileys, Grand Marnier, and single cream together with some ice in a shaker. Shake thoroughly, and pour into a cocktail glass. Pour a splash (about 1/3 shot) through the mixture to the bottom of the glass. Shake nutmeg over the top of the cocktail

Secret Place
Ingredients:
* 1 1/2 oz Dark rum
* 1/2 oz Cherry brandy
* 2 tsp Dark Creme de Cacao
* 4 oz cold Coffee
* crushed Ice

Mixing instructions:
Pour all of the ingredients into an Irish coffee glass filled with crushed ice. Stir well.

Sunshine Smile
Ingredients:
* 2 oz Vodka
* 2 oz Orange juice
* Fill with Champagne

Mixing instructions:
Shake Vodka and Orange Juice. Top glass with Champagne. Garnish with a slice of orange.

Sweet Heart
Ingredients:
* 2 cl Parfait d'Amour (Bols)
* 1.5 cl Amaretto di Saronno (ILLVA Saronno)
* 1.5 cl Vanilla syrup (Monin)
* 1.5 cl fresh Cream
* 0.5 cl red Curacao (Marie Brizard)

Mixing instructions:
Shake. Garnish with cinamon-powder, cherry, mint, lemon-peel

and the
Warm and Fuzzy
Ingredients:
* 1/3 oz Triple sec
* 1/3 oz Southern Comfort
* 1/3 oz Cherry brandy

Mixing instructions:
Pour southern comfort, triple sec, and then cherry brandy.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere- America Edition

Since this week we was our 4th of July (that's right, they don't have it in other countries) I thought I'd share some pretty true (red,white &) blue drink recipes. I just found these online so I can't attest to the greatness of them, but with some of the recipes you really can't go wrong. Or I think I'm going to try instead to do drinks with American place names. I'm sure I don't know them all, so if you know any that you'd recommend that I've forgotten feel free to add them in the comments ( o ye mythical reader). Of course none of this are really canonical recipes so I'll put which ever one catches my fancy, or the first one I find, which will probably catch my fancy.

The California Iced Tea

fill with 1/2 sweet & sour mix
1/2 oz Orange Curacao
1 oz light rum
1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz vodka
fill with 1/2 orange juice
1 splash 7-up

(and if you wanna make it Italian style, just add a jigger of absinthe)

Blue Hawaiian

1 oz light rum
1 cherry
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz Blue Curacao
1 oz cram of coconut
1 pineapple slice

Blend light rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut with one cup ice in an electric blender at high speed

The Long Island
1 part vodka

1 part tequila
1 part rum
1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix
1 splash Coke

Mix ingredients together over ice in a glass. Pour into a shaker and give one brisk shake. Pour back into the glass and make sure there is a touch of fizz at the top

The Miami Vice

5 oz Bacardi 151
1 package frozen pina colada mix
1 package frozen daiquiri mix

1. Mix pina colada with 2.5 oz. of rum w/ ice. Set aside.
2. Mix daiquiri with 2.5 oz. of rum w/ ice.
3. While frozen, add pina colada mix to a cocktail glass. Add the daiquiri mix on top, keeping it seperated from the pina colada mix.

Colorado Bulldog

1 shot vodka
1 shot Kahlua
milk
1 splash Coke

In a shaker mix Vodka, Kahlua, and milk. Pour into a rocks glass and add a splash of Coca-Cola.

Cape Cod
(it's a cranberry and vodka)

Lynchburg Lemonade
1 part Jack Daniels
1 part sweet and sour mix
1 part triple sec
4 parts sprite

Missouri Mule

2 parts Bourbon 2 parts applejack 2 parts lemon juice 1 part campari 1 part contreau

Manhattan

3/4 oz sweet vermouth
2 1/2 oz bourbon
1 dash bitters
1 maraschino cherry
1 twist orange peel

Combine the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Rub the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink to release the oils but don't drop it in.

Alabama Slammer

1/2 oz amaretto
1/2 oz Southern Comfort
1 splash orange juice
1 splash sweet and sour

Pour above ingredients into a stainless steel shaker over ice and shake until completely cold. Strain into an old-fashioned glass and serve.

and here are so more drinks named after America. Of course there are other drinks that just reek of America, like a Mint Julep, a Boilermaker or the All-American
So however you do it, do it well. I think you can have a good weekend now.
