Puppy Bowl IV: Get Excited

The best part of the super bowl; It’s not the game or the commercials.
It’s Puppy Bowl!

It’s actually counterprogramming to the real Super Bowl but it’s probably better and it is like the cutest thing ever. No wait, check that- it’s not like the cutest thing ever, it is the cutest thing ever.
Here are some clips from Puppy Bowl III , last year’s epic (The winner? I have no idea)
And they are all amazing

See and scout out the starting lineup
(my dog looks like Janet
And I love the halftime of Puppy Bowl where they have all the kitties

Just remember at halftime on Sunday turn on Animal Planet and check it out- you won’t regret it, unless you’re heartless. You’re not heartless are you?

Monday Morning Cuteness

let's see how well today goes...

Here are two videos of dogs and cats living in harmony. Forgetting that they're different species and falling in love. I mean if they can do it, why can't we humans?

and this is from my friend Chelsea and her Lady & Peanut in love

my dog and cats kinda just ignore each other...not as cute but kinda keeps the peace

Monday Morning Cuteness

I think I've come across a simple equation
one cat equals cute. two cats equals adorable and multiple cats "thinking they're people" and doing stuff like talking is just awww!

i am so not awake yet

The Good Old Days

(or as some might say: Advice that Hillary should have taken last week.)

this is why I haven't written about politics (like the fact that I think Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy because he feels that Rudy has the best chance of defeating Hillary, who is still his personal boggart and bogeywoman of his organization, though that endorsement will shoring up conservative credentials could turn off moderates who really don't like Pat Robertson or anything he stands for) today. I may be a feminist but this is still funny as hell. From the mind of Harry Enfield (and his chums) one of my friends sent me this last week and I couldn't resist

glumbert - Women: Know your limits

Aww. kittens ARE soft and furry. awww

Monday Morning Cuteness

It's Monday; get excited (ugh. ) This week's Monday Morning Cuteness, I have no idea why I have it, besides maybe my esteemed LME co founder Everlyn sent it to me one night, but it's really cute and kind of funny. I have no idea what the context is, what the song means, or really anything about this clip ( i've forgotten all the japanese I ever knew) except there are tonnes of kittens playing, some with balls of strings ( which I never though was a real occurrence- when my cats were kittens they just showed no interest when I would have any) and, to be honest, that's all you really need to know to enjoy so here's Minna no Uta's "Koneko to Keito" ( and I really hope I just didn't call my mom a whore)

I Trust You To Kill Me

if I ever become like this woman. I know I often joke about being an old cat lady but, in moderation. This is not moderation; this is absurd. This is terrifying!
But if my life moves in strangeways and I do become an old Russian woman with 130 cats in my apartment, please just shoot me. And then leave my body for my cats to eat. That seems ironic being eaten by pussies. (And ew, I regret that one immediately)

Speaking of Feline Bringers of Death...

(Or: "im on ur bed causin ur deth")
I was just kidding yesterday when I sort of said cats were evil killing machines but this story is making me reconsider. A cat at a hospice in Providence has been killing patients, or as the attendants would prefer to believe is merely predicting their deaths. From the story

Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.

Oscar the cat doesn't like to be put out in the hall when a patient is dying.

His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means the patient has less than four hours to live.

"He doesn't make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die," Dr. David Dosa said in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

The 2-year-old feline was adopted as a kitten and grew up in a third-floor dementia unit at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

After about six months, the staff noticed Oscar would make his own rounds, just like the doctors and nurses. He'd sniff and observe patients, then sit beside people who would wind up dying in a few hours.

Dosa said Oscar seems to take his work seriously and is generally aloof. "This is not a cat that's friendly to people," he said.

I wouldn't imagine the cat would be too friendly, and I know I wouldn't be too friendly to him. The thing is obviously evil and how freaked out would you be if you were a patient and this cat hopped onto your bed; I would totally use up all my strength trying to get him away (and yes I know if you're in a hospice you really don't have the strength to do that and in many cases might welcome the Real Reaper)

I suppose it is more comforting to think that the cat is consoling or preparing these patients to move on rather than causing their deaths, but in situations like this I remember a quote from the book Goldfinger where Goldfinger confronts Bond "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence but three times is Enemy Action" I wonder what the 25th time is. I'm scared now; I think I'll do what my cats want...

My Cats Like Milk...

but I'm pretty sure they hate me. All they do is sit away from me, try to escape whenever I hold them and basically ignore me whenever I call them. Which may be par for the course with cats, but now even my whiny and needy one, who may think he's a dog, is doing it too. And of course me being as overly sensitive as I am I feel that I must have done something wrong, do they not like their food? are they bored with having the run of the house? I'm trying to figure out how I annoyed them (and its amazing with all this guilt that I constantly feel that I'm not Catholic.) But I guess thats why I love my cats and cats so much because they are a mystery and you have to win their love over and over again, unlike my dog, he can't get enough of me. My cats seem to only acknowledge me when they're hungry.
Bu they're soo adorable and I still love 'em and have faith that I can mold them just like on the Simpsons--hey they have a movie coming out tomorrow-- from Lisa's First Word

Homer and Marge visit Stinking Fish Realty. But they have problems
finding a proper house -- or the proper neighborhood. The first one is
too violent. The second house is located next to a rendering plant.
("Mmm...hog fat"). {The third one is Captain McAllister's houseboat,
where the good Captain's sales pitch is interrupted while he wrestles a
Great White.} And the fourth is full of cats.

Marge: Once we get the cats out of the way, it won't be too bad
Agent: Actually, according to the will, the cats own the house. You'd
be their tenants!

Lisa: I wish we lived in the kitty house.
Bart: I could've trained them to be my unholy army of the night. Go, my
pretties! Kill! Kill!

Yeah I've sort of, reluctantly, given up on that goal myself

Overheard in L.M.E.- The Ultimate Showdown

(an early Saturday afternoon in April)

ev livid e: omg, that is the cutest thing ever!!!
ev livid e: cuter than kittens
ev livid e: way cuter than kittens
a dam e: "you should say i'm gonna kick his butt"

"ooh"
a dam e: best part
ev livid e: ohhhhhhh
ev livid e: ahah
a dam e: and don't hate on kittens
ev livid e: kittens are ugly and dirty
a dam e: babies poop
a dam e: and talk back
ev livid e: babies are natural
a dam e: kittens came before babies
a dam e: evolutionaryily speaking
ev livid e : babies are louder than kittens
a dam e: is that good or bad?
ev livid e: in emergencies, better
a dam e: but when trying to sleep not
ev livid e: but when robbers come in, yes
a dam e: but babies like everyone so they'll just be happy, whereas cats are finicky and elitist and would scratch strangers
ev livid e: babies are friendlier
a dam e: friendly doesn't win wars
ev livid e: pretend friendly does. babies pretend they need attention, then they go in and suckle
a dam e: (haha-you just made me choke a little)
ev livid e: why? because i said suckle?
a dam e: kittens will rub against your leg just so they can get close enough to slice your achilles tendon with their claws
a dam e: cuz i was laughing so hard i started to cough but i was still laughing so i choked
ev livid e: babies will cry in your ear so that they can be burped and then vomit baby juice all over and in your ear
a dam e: a kitten will knife you
ev livid e: a homesick abortion will climb up your leg
a dam e: haahhahaaha
ev livid e: this may quite possibly be the most offensive conversation that i've had on a saturday morning
a dam e: its past 3 in the afternoon
ev livid e: pacific time
a dam e: still past noon

Perhaps sterility is a good thing

Over the past few days I've come to a realization and its all due to my boy cat Dubya. Dubya has always been a whiny cat, when he was a kitten his eyes didn't open for a long time and his mother sort of abandoned him until, because of my constant prodding her to take care of him, she acknowledged he existed. Even after this he could always be heard meowing for any of his sisters. I originally named him Dubya because he was so whiny, helpless, but as the only boy cat felt compelled to eat all of his sisters' food and take over their resting places.
Time passes. Dubya grows up, 4 and a half now, and over the past week or so his cute endearing constant meaowing and running to me and demanding my affectation whenever he sees me has worn a little thin. Which got me thinking, what if Dubya were like my real kid? Would I still get annoyed at his constant whining and neediness, or would his humanity out weigh it? I would like to think that I could teach my kid not to be such a brat, something I can't teach Dubya (damn his razor claws.) Am I going to be that horrible a mother? Like I like Saca because she's a "real cat" who barely tolerates or acknowledges me, and I tolerate my brother's dog because he can follow commands, most of the time. Is that what kind of kids I want/ the only ones I can tolerate. That saying "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"= I don't get it; I would just replace the wheel, which I guess you can't do with kids...gawd. Sorry just venting, so if this is still around in 10 years when I'm trying to adopt, just disregard this Adoption Service Investigators; I actually do like kids*

*as long as they're well behaved and/or cute and smart

Monday Morning Cuteness- Working w/Animals

Let's start the week off an a great note, with KITTENS!!! My cat Saca is sitting on the top of the couch right new to my head, so I'm a bit inspired. Anyway this kitten is so adorable and reminds me of my boy cat (Dubya) with his meowing, and need for constant attention whenever he sees me

I have the strongest feeling I may grow up to be an old cat lady.Oh well, que sera...
