Archuleta's The Idol

once again I don't watch American Idol but I've heard so much good stuff about this kid David Archuleta that I had to check him out

wow. wow. first that boy does not sing like a 17 year old at all, Randy was right. secondly him meeting the season 1 finalists when he was 11 makes me feel really old. thirdly singing Dreamgirls at 11- he's gayer than a goldfish (even if he doesn't know it yet) but damn can he sing. hopefully they don't try to "straighten" him out. Paula is terrifying, btw
and yes i am prone to making outlandish statements like the title above based on 2 minutes of singing, I've done it before...
p.s. he kind of looks like Marco from Degrassi

Bruce Pearl is Howard Dean

(Alternatively titled The Howard Dean of College Basketball)

If not in terms of results then at least in intensity and fieriness of rally speeches.

Fanhouse had this video of Bruce Pearl at a rally for the Volunteer faithful before their game against #1 Memphis /

And in the middle of watching that it struck me as being oh so familiar and that’s when it came to me- Howard Dean, 2004, Iowa

Except for Pearl lacking that unhuman scream of Dean’s they are way similar
And they kind of look the same too, don't they? like in the way where they both have grayish hear covering a squarish head and...shoulders?

right? am i right?

It's time to meet the Muppets

This campaign really has sparked a ton of interest and enthusiasm and in some cases that interest and enthusiasm is shown by: deciding which actors would play the candidates http://midnighttransmission.blogspot.com/2008/01/casting-inevitable-2008-campaign-movie.html, or which candidate looks like which breed of dog http://midnighttransmission.blogspot.com/2008/02/dog-lovers-guide-to-presidential.html, well now we have a new entry into the Presidential Twinnies extravaganza- which Muppet looks the most like each “candidate”
I’ve always wondered this myself.

(Charles Grodin is a muppet? That explains so much.)
Oh Barack, you really are the most sensational inspirational celebrational Muppetational

The Dog Lover’s Guide to the Presidential Election

Aka “What Dogs Look Like Each Candidate”

I’m afraid of what this says about the direction of the newspaper industry but it’s still bizarre enough to be entertaining, and because I know you racked your brain thinking of this very same topic.

From the Baltimore Sun (the same newspaper currently getting shredded on The Wire”)

Today the Mutts blog brings you Part One of "The Dog Lovers' Guide to the Presidential Election," a special report that asks, and answers, the question, "If the presidential candidates were dogs, what breed would they be?"

Today, we bring you the Democratic front runners. Tomorrow, in addition to wishing you a Super Tuesday, we'll unveil the Republicans. And on Wednesday, in the belief that every candidate should get his doggie due, we'll show you the lesser-knowns and also-rans.

The decisions on which breed the individual candidates most closely resemble were based both on physical appearance and personality, and the breed descriptions and behavioral characteristics that follow all come directly and without alteration from reputable sources including the American Kennel Club, the Kennel Club in London and Petplanet.co.uk.

This may even tell you who Mike Vick would support, if he actually voted
You can click on the link to learn more about the characteristics of each breed, and perhaps what the Mutts editors perceive in each respective candidate

On with the Dog Show:

Hillary Clinton – Labradoodle

Barack Obama - Great Dane

John McCain - Pug

Mitt Romney - Smooth Fox Terrier (this dog’s breed really sounds like the name of a pimp)

Mike Huckabee – Beagle (that description makes me think that my dog’s part beagle…who knew?)

Duncan Hunter - Standard Schnauzer

Alan Keyes - Standard Poodle

Fred Thompson - English Bulldog (I’ve always wanted a bulldog. I’d name him Winston)

Mike Gravel - Samoyed

Rudolph Giuliani - French Bulldog

John Edwards - Golden Retriever

Ron Paul - Welsh Corgi

Dennis Kucinich - Jack Russell Terrier

The "Penn" Harvey

Hmm, I don't see it from that angle, but I trust Sean Penn and Gus van Sant

Casting The (Inevitable) 2008 Campaign Movie

Zap2It had a pretty interesting idea to try to cast the Presidential Candidates, because y'know this has all been sooo historic that someone will probably make a movie. And for the most part they're actually really good

for the sake of winnowing I've only included current "contenders"

Edie Falco as Hillary
John Edwards portrayed by Steven Culp (he played RFK too)
Zeljko Ivanek as Rudy (well, he is in the race at least until the morning)
Gregory Itzin as The Huck
John McCain starring Kevin Nealon (Hmm… Nealon is less straight talk, more mr. subliminal)
Harry Lennix as...somebody
Sir Ian McKellan as Ron Paul (not sure how happy Ron would be about that)
and Ted Danson as Mitt

Thoughts? Suggestions? Critiques?
(found on Top of the Ticket, which also has a link to a really cool site “The Living Room Candidate” which features campaign ads from 1952-2004. It's fun and such an amazing time waster in the form of historical record. Really.)

Twinnies!

As I was watching In Treatment last night I really couldn't help but notice that the patient Laura looked so so familiar and then it came to me.
Is it just me or does Melissa George (Laura)

really really look like Eliza Dushku (who I'll always think of as and love because she was Faith)?

(and kinda like Rachel Macadams, slightly as well?)
And while watching last night it was so confusing because she also had that kinda deepish, yet breathy, sultry maybe voice that Eliza has.
That was basically the point, all I had and it got me so excited that the first thing in the morning I had to spread my observation.
My life is sad.

[Video "proof" from In Treatment
