Seven days a week, seven deadly sins; it just seems like certain days should lend themselves to certain sins and while I'd prefer to save Lust for Saturday or Friday and leave Sunday for Sloth but I was reminded that Friday Night Lights is coming back to NBC and of course Taylor "Tim Riggins" Kitsch is...well simply the hottest thing in all of creation


Also Mark Sanchez is pretty hot himself (and he actually plays football, like in real life)

"Friday Night Lights" may shine on for another season -- and on more than one network.

NBC Universal execs have decided they want to go the extra yard to ensure the drama returns for a third season. To make sure that happens, conglom is having serious conversations with several networks about a plan to carve out multiple broadcast windows for the show, which has received critical worship and has a cult-like following.

Peacock has had talks with the CW, Comcast Entertainment Networks (E!/G4) and TNT about sharing "Friday Night Lights" with NBC. DirecTV, which last year picked up the rights to NBC sudser "Passions," has also been brought into the mix.

Just how the shared window plan would work is unclear, but one model may be the plan NBC worked out for "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Starting this season, episodes of "CI" premiered on USA Network and aired a few months later on NBC. Skein has generated solid numbers in both windows.

Whether NBC U can work out a similar deal with a network it doesn't own remains to be seen. Already, some people familiar with the talks have complained that Peacock's asking price for "Friday Night Lights" is too high.

Still, the show's loyal core audience and attractive demos -- it's among the most popular shows on TV with upscale viewers -- could help close the sale.

Reps for the Peacock and producer Imagine Television declined comment.

But any celebration may be premature

Variety reports that Taylor Kitsch, who plays hard-boozing, lady-killing fullback Riggins, has signed on to star in the next installment of the X-Men franchise—and that he did so with with blessing of NBC brass. Great news for Kitsch, of course, except that the movie's May 1 release date means his 2008 schedule is kind of booked. Which means NBC knows FNL isn't coming back this year, or else they'd never have given Kitsch permission to go play Gambit in the first place.

I mean he could still do both, now that writers are back they can write in a reason for him to be gone half the season so I’m not totally defeated yet. But in another way Taylor Kitsch as Gambit? That’s hot! And by that I mean Taylor- Riggins is a sex god
(unfortunately will.i.am. would be in the movie too which dooms it to being unwatchable or enjoyable)

Viacom Hates America

I mean what show is more All-American than a show about high school football in small town Texas?
But Viacom doesn’t care about that as they’ve forced Best Week Ever to stop its vocal and seemingly effective campaign to keep Friday Night Lights on the air according to a Defamer investigation

Over the weekend, all mention of the campaign mysteriously disappeared from the site's homepage. So we decided to do some digging.

According to Viacom insiders familiar with the situation, the campaign immediately began to draw the ire of upper management the second it was launched. You see, Friday Night Lights airs on Friday nights, the same night that Best Week Ever premieres a new episode each week. Although the shows are not direct competitors, Vh1 production execs were less than thrilled that the flagship site of their new Digital Programming unit was using Viacom funds and bandwidth to promote a show that airs on NBC. The irony here is rich, especially when you consider that the entire concept of Best Week Ever revolves around content generated by sources outside of the walls of Viacom AND includes significant amounts of programming aired on other networks.

So, what will become of the campaign? At press time, the answer is not clear.

Even though, according to EW it may find a second chance on another channel, don't put too much hope into that- remember when Arrested Development was "supposed to" move to Showtime? And even if the strike ends by next week so this season could conclude Ben Silverman is a moron who has not been supporting it at all and may not let that happen

E! has "Three Easy Steps" that everyone can do

1. Watch the Friday Night Lights Finale Tomorrow Night at 9 p.m. on NBC: You don't have to know anything in advance. This is not Lost; there's no complicated mythology to learn. If you've ever been a person, known a person or wondered about becoming a person, you'll get Friday Night Lights.

2. Watch Other Episodes: They are available on nbc.com's Episode Rewind or in the season-one DVD (a ridiculous $18.99 on Amazon.com for 22 episodes), and every single click and purchase counts. You don't even have to watch in order. If you just want to watch one to test the water, I recommend the season-one eps "Full Hearts" (Matt & Julie's first date), "Black Eyes & Broken Hearts" (I dare you not to cry at the end!), "Blinders" (the powder puff game), "Mud Bowl" (it's what it sounds like)...Hell, just watch one, and then good luck not watching them all.

3. Spread the Word! Email this article to everyone you know who needs help in seeing the Lights! Let them know you are concerned for their own well-being and that you will help them do whatever it takes to get on board with this amazing show. Then wear your Panthers number 7 jersey with pride, try to keep your drool over Taylor Kitsch to a minimum, and remember...

In a primetime TV landscape dominated by reality shows and reheated cliche, every so often a television series of supreme quality and bold originality comes along and challenges our conception of the quality of entertainment we can expect from network television. BURBANK January 28, 2008 NBC will premiere the new high-energy competition series "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" on Monday, February 18 (8-9 p.m. ET) after "American Gladiators" finishes its winter run, and will debut the comedy quiz show "Amne$ia" on Friday, February 22 (9-10 p.m. ET) following the season finale of "1 vs 100." The announcement was made by Craig Plestis, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, Development and Specials, NBC Entertainment.

"Amne$ia" will follow its February 22 premiere by moving into its regular broadcast day and time on Friday, February 29 at 8-9 p.m. (ET).

The two new series join NBC's current strong slate of reality programs, and continue to represent NBC's thriving tradition of presenting fun, contemporary, high-stakes and comedic game shows that viewers of all ages can enjoy.

"The Baby Borrowers," originally scheduled to premiere on February 18, will move to a later date to be announced.

"If you love the competitive energy of 'American Gladiators' and the outrageous challenges of 'Fear Factor,' you'll love 'My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad,'" said Plestis. "Combined with our hilarious new quiz show 'Amne$ia,' viewers aren't going to want to miss this great week of reality premieres."

"My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" is a high-energy, family-friendly competition series hosted by Dan Cortese ("MTV Sports," "What I Like About You"). The show will finally prove the familiar schoolyard boast -- "My dad is better than your dad!" Dads and their respective son or daughter will be at the forefront of the action leading them in exciting larger-than-life challenges testing dad's strength, smarts and how well he works together with his son or daughter. Ultimately, the triumphant dad will strut away with money for his child's future and the all-important bragging rights.

Cortese has a variety of television and film credits to his name. He first shot to stardom as the creator and host of the Emmy Award-winning "MTV Sports" and later went on to co-star alongside Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes in the feature film "Demolition Man." Cortese has starred in numerous television sitcoms including "Veronica's Closet," "Rock Me Baby" and "What I Like About You."

It's been a banner season for NBC's unscripted programs, especially through the month of January. "American Gladiators," "Deal or No Deal," "Celebrity Apprentice" and "The Biggest Loser" are all scoring top-15 ratings in adults 18-49 for the first quarter to date, ranking #6, tied for #7, tied for #9 and tied for #12 respectively among all primetime network series for the quarter through January 20. When I first saw the commercial I saw a cross between American Gladiators (with like a tennis ball cannon from Assault), Fear Factor (transporting scorpions), Double Dare, (I saw slime) Dog eat Dog (trash talk will be encouraged), and like Legends of the Hidden Temple (I think I saw someone climbing a cheapily made tree).

And I'm sure Amne$ia is even better. What happened to Dennis Miller?

So let’s get this straight these shows are coming on the air but it can be reasonably inferred from this interview with Ben Silverman from Radar that Friday Night Lights isn’t coming back

Radar: Quick question! A lot of us are happy that you've kept Friday Night Lights on the air despite lousy ratings. It's totally the best show on TV. But is there going to be another season?
Silverman: Do you watch 30 Rock? That's the best show on TV.

Not regularly. But what about FNL?
Start watching 30 Rock. It's the best show on TV.

I love it. You love it. Unfortunately, no one watches it. That's the thing with shows. People have to watch them. We're NBC, we have a reputation to uphold. And, man, with this writers' strike ... well, we'll see what we can do. But start watching 30 Rock.

The WGA Strike: Day 12 of...

I'm a little torn. So last night I was absolutely exhausted by was trying to stay awake for 30 Rock and The Office. I made it through 30 Rock but must have passed out before The Office because I woke up at like 9:26 very confused. So I know it won't really matter if I watch it online, but I vowed not to watch any "promotion" online in support of the writers and I really wanna see what may be the last Office for awhile.

And what's so weird is that I think last night I saw an ad for some show with blonde Rachel formerly of the Daily Show premiering on the 26th. Midseason replacements in November. Awesome.
but it's not all doom and gloom. while I was waiting yesterday I read an article in the New York Times Business section about how the strike can "serve as a second chance" for some shows-like Friday Night Lights!!-because, as the article says

"very soon the networks will begin running low on original scripted episodes of shows. Any new episode will become an increasingly valuable commodity. No network is going to waste bought-and-paid-for episodes. So the marginal shows will stay on until their episodes run out, which, in most cases, will mean sometime between now and the end of January...

In other seasons some shows like these, which have teetered on the ratings fence, might have been temporarily shelved or yanked off the air. Now, as Mr. Beckman noted, “they’re just going to be allowed to play out.” And as another senior network program executive put it, “We’re going to get a little extra look at some of these shows, and maybe they’ll help themselves.”

A show like “Friday Night Lights,” for instance, with its high critical praise and low ratings, could get a chance to break through in January, when it is likely to be among the few fall series with some new episodes left; the show started production early and managed to complete 15 episodes before the strike."

So if you're bored and are sick of watching reality shows just remember Friday Night Lights- it is amazing. (and if you can't do it for the show do it for Riggins and Saracen- i enjoy them.)

[UPDATE: I caved and watched The Office and that really was a "wow" terrific and tremendous episode. Damn near brilliant.]

Friday Night Lights

so Friday Night Lights premiered on its new night Friday, which I didn't think I agreed with because much of its core audience could actually be playing football on friday nights, but then I remembered that was how SVU first built up its audience so maybe it is a good thing, and though I didn't watch it on Friday I watched it online this weekend and it was kind of weird. (and yes I know it's a Wednesday and I'm just now reviewing it but I've been putting it off)
It is really like I guess my favorite drama on t.v. and last season was so perfect that I may judge it harshly. But everything changed so strangely.
Like Lyla being born again just seemed to come out of nowhere; i mean I can maybe form a bridge in my mind seeing her dad cheat on her mom and tearing up the family like that and then everything with Jason Streets maybe made her refocus but there weren't any signs that I can recall about her becoming so Christian. And it wasn't like she was the kind of nice not pushy Christian, she got like Evangelical, which is scary.
Tyra still had her attacker stalker her, which was creepy, and so she kind of depends on Landry who still hasn't told Tyra how he feels about her. And then they kill the stalker and dump his body...it was all very soap operay but has potential to be like a real and emotional and powerful story line.
So far I hate the new coach who is a real hard ass. And the whole dynamic within the Taylors is so strained and weird that at first I didn't like it but then it made sense that the show was actually being real and exhibiting the tension that has to come with a nomadic coach's family, of the coach being away from the family for so long while he pursues his dreams but leaves the family to grow apart. I really hope I don't have to care about Coach Taylor's TMU team. And the thing that maybe upset me the most was Julie kind of being a bitch to Matt Saracen, who is such a good kid, while trying to hook up with a older musician guy who I automatically hate because he's not Matt Saracen. But then her "reasoning" kind of made sense that she felt that Matt was so much like her father and she's seen what kind of life a coach's wife has and she didn't think she could do that. She's only 16 though. Hopefully she comes to her senses, because if she doesn't and breaks Matt heart (I'll be quite upset) she'll probably cost Dillon a chance at repeating at State.
And Smash was in the episode for like one scene. The world totally gone mad.

At least Riggins is still the same alcoholic.
I love this show soo much. sigh, and I hate the fact I love these characters and think they're real people; I don't think that's normal. But Friday Night Lights is like the best show...

p.s. does anyone know how they measure if someone watches episodes online? because I want to make sure my support for the show is registered.
